As a policy advisor for a member of Congress, and also a herper, here are some suggestions:
If you go to DC, make apopintments in advance with the offices of your Congressman and both Senators from your state. You will likely meet with a legisaltive assistant, whish is fine. Focus on how this legislation impacts the home state/district -- which it does not except for a few areas in South Florida and along the Gulf Coast. Assure them that released Burmes pythons are NOT going to survive in Minnesota. Be polite, be reasonable. If you CANNOT go to DC, make an appointment to visit and talk with a staff person in the homestate offices for your Congressman and both Senators. If possible go in a small group. In either case the staff person you meet with will memo the Congressman or Senator before the vote on this bill. Remember, they pay the most attention to home state/district people and ask first, How will this affect the people I represent?
