I know it's not a new thing for people to post their freehandling on the web so they can try to impress people or look 'cool'.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fxshocgcs4k
Just looking for some ideas. I tried messaging this person but it fell on deaf ears.
The person who posted this video said that it wasn't her who was handling the snake (it's her friend) so it's not her problem. I tried saying that the video itself is a bad example to new keepers...
Is it 'acceptable' to ask people to take videos like this down for that reason?
Has anyone tried communicating with people they've seen posting stuff like this online? How did it go? What did you tell them? What could be said/done to help poeple to understand the consequences of stuff like this... for themselves and the hobby?

Freehandling anywhere for any reason by anyone is idiotic at best IMO. Unfortunately, they will always be out there...... Take care, Marty

Luke, it is worth trying.
But, you are trying to get through to brain dead folks, which is often not easy.
In the past, I have been somewhat successful in talking with folks like that and telling them that they are hurting the reptile hobby in general, and to some extent they listened. Some of them have taken down their UTube videos because of that.
However, there will always be those folks who put showing off before common sense, or, caring about others in the reptile hobby. We see that with some of the older keepers / showoffs, who have made a profession out of free-handling snakes for the camera.
To them, it is the "look at me, ain't I cool" factor, before it is about others in the hobby.
The little nit-wit in the video you posted will eventually get nailed by that Aspidelaps, and will go through a few days of misery and pain because of it. Hopefully, he will after that learn just how stupid what he is doing is.
Best Regards
John Z

I guess you're right, John. I know I can't change others, but it's so hard to hold my tongue when so many of us are fighting to keep our hobby when so few are destroying it in front of us.
5% of the people cause 95% of the problems.
