Wow he really has you fooled!
He is far from a professional.
His skills to handle a croc or snake are far from being good. He does not have a "natural understanding" of their behaviors. He is far from anything animal related. He is an actor, thats it. His personality is what made him famous, not his ability to get close too or "read" a crocodile. Thats called camera angles.
he is an embarrassment to the profession and hobby!

he knew exactly what he was doing takin his kid in the croc pen, that puts him right there with jackson, at least jackson didn't have a croc there.
As far as whoever said he learned a lesson and won't do it again?? after all that happened he had his 5 year old daughter in a pen with 2 adult elephants unrestraind and alone.
The man is an idiot, he has always been an embarrassment to the profession and hobby, He has never been a good animal handler. Period.

To Fabian:
Some people in the entertainment business feel that any publicity is good. If this is the mentality of the folks that produce "Croc Hunter" then it is possible that they see this as good for ratings. If the network sees this in positive numbers in their ratings polls, they won't jerk the show off the air.
To the rest of you:
I admit that I am NOT a Steve Irwin fan. I haven't been one from the very beginning of his shows, which is all they are... shows... I learned early on that everything he did is staged, with animals kept "cool" to allow him to "handle" them in the way that he does with reduced risk, because it is "entertainment" afterall.... just like wrestling has finally admitted after all these years.... nothing more. nothing less. It's all about filling seats... either in front of the television or in an arena.
Do I think Steve cares about the animals? I don't know. I do believe he cares about the money, his TV ratings, and yes... his family, even though he does what I believe are some pretty stupid things that I would never do with my kids.
To the person that implied that we are all guilty of the same level of endangerment to our children if we keep "big" or "venomous" snake in our homes, I would disagree. I do not, and never have, worked with animals with my kids around. It's a distraction and it's unsafe. When they get older (than five at least) and if they express an interest in the animals, then I'll consider introducing them to the animals slowly. Just as I would consider introducing them to fishing, hunting, or any other activity that requires RESPONSIBLE behavior on the part of those who participate in them. Comparing the "keeping" of animals with feeding a crocodile while holding an infant like a football under one's arm is a little bit stupid too, in my opinion.
I'd be happy to give specific examples of how this show is staged, for any of you who may not have picked up on little details like how Steve managed to spot a rattlesnake while driving at breakneck speed across the American Southwest... slammed on brakes, jumped out of jeep and raced to his already waiting camera crew to show us the snake.... little things like that....

Yes, Well siad Tom. I was watching fox news just before I went to bed last night. The big thing on steve then was now he thinks it might be best to quit the show, and get out of the lime light. by being compaired to Jacko was doing him in. I do not think his show will last now. Tom you are very right about the cooled down snakes. I always had a problem with how he showed kidds how to just run up and grab a venomous snake by the tail, or even mid body. I don't know, I guess I am not sure how I feel about his show. There is a lot of bad, Yet there is a lot of good. I do not think it was done for ratings. Oh-well I do wish him luck.

My reply is sure to be controversial.
I personally do not care what Steve Irwin does.
There is always a hue and cry for "Child Services" to take away some celebrity's child(ren) over some thing or another.
Okay, so we take away his kids. Who raises them then?
We put the burden of raising his children (to society's standards of safety) on someone else who does not necessarily care about the child's needs as much as that paycheck coming from the government for fostering the child. And who pays that paycheck? We do! I had enough trouble raising my own children without society telling me that they thought I was too harsh or not harsh enough or that I wasn't safe enough to raise my kids. Somehow, they all turned out to be rational productive members of society as I am sure that Steve Irwin's children will be. Why am I sure? Because anyone with a brain can see that he loves his family and just wants to include them in the many wonders that he has seen in his life.
My own daughter could identify venomous snakes before she started Kindergarten. Did she learn that from watching Animal Planet? National Geographic Channel? Reading Reptiles Magazine? A clue: she is 23, now. None of those things were around when she was little. She learned how to identify deadly reptiles by hanging around with her father, who regardless of "camera angle" or "audience perception" made sure that she was always safe.
I have better things to do than to police how someone else raises their children. I have raised my own and certainly don't want to raise theirs.
Just my personal opinion.

Irwin was MILES out of line! He not only had a full crowd present but a tv crew taping him as well, yet he's shocked at the outrage his stunt was sure to generate. Having his children "croc-savvy" because they live around them is one thing; doing it by feeding
a croc with one hand while holding a month-old infant in the other is something else entirely, whether he thinks he was "in complete control" or not. Unbelievably reckless!
Sincerely,
Bill Huseth
