I have used Provent-a-Mite with great success.
It starts working instantly and does a really good job.
Just be sure to follow the directions on the can.
Remove reptile and water. Spray the substrate, let dry and then replace the reptile and water. Be sure to wipe off the glass or plexi if you get any residue on it (paper towels).
I talked to several people before using this product and all agreed... it works wonders.
I have used it on both hots and nots.
Good luck.

Hellow fellow hot herpers!
Let me start by saying that there is NOTHING I hate more than external parasites!! Awful little beasties!!
I have found "Frontline" spray (the same type used for cats and dogs), to be VERY effective.
I have to admit that I haven't used Frontline on any of my hot snakes (never needed to). But it has proved effective with North American Colubrids, Boas, Pythons and also for eradicating lizard mites on various species of Gecko.
One point I would like to raise... Does any one else here find that members of the Bitis complex, seem not to get snake mites?? In my experience they don't seem to be good candidates for mites... even fresh imports I have worked with don't seem to come in with any mites.
Happy Herping

Viperman:
Thanks for your response. I too hate little blood sucker whether they are inside or out. The snake I was refering to is my puff adder. I don't think they are "snake mites" but came from the mice I have been buying and fresh killing. However, I inspected (as good as I could) my Gabby & Rhino and did not see any but took no chances and sprayed them down with Reptile-relief which I could get right away at the local pet shop. The puff was just loaded with them. I took her to the bath and rinsed her off in the tub of water and the surface was just covered with what came off her in a short time. I then sprayed her down with the Repitle relief. I had noted that she was very thirsty this week drinking far more than nomal but did not put all of the clues together till this morning. The only other snake that has visable mites is the Cerastes cerastes.

Hi an even cheaper way is too place some vegatible oil in a container thats just large enough to hold the snake.Apply the lid and gentlely rock the container back and forth socking the snake in oil.Vegatible oil is none toxic and it coats the mites which starves them from oxygen. After treatment, place the snake in a clean container with plenty of rags and allow the snake to slither there for a while, the rags will remove excess oil.
Regards
John
