Description: His teeth red from mildly narcotic betel nut leaves, this vedda boy lives in the forests of the Nilgala fire savanna. His daily life is something that most of us will only read about in books. Elephants, russell's vipers, spectacled cobras, humpnosed vipers, water buffalo, and even leopards are all hazards that he must learn to avoid. One week prior to this photo, his father died after rolling over onto a krait during the night.
