licensing ?
|
I think not, the govt. has too much control over our lives as it is.
The founders of the U.S.A. left England to escape a over
controlling government, and now this govt. is becoming worse than
the one left. We are supposed to control the govt., not them control us.
So I say no to licensing. It won't help anything anyway, it can only hurt!
If I take it upon myself to own a hot snake then it is my responsibility to
deal with it and be a safe, responsible owner. The same goes for every
other hot herper. Thanks for letting me have the soap box for a few.

Absolutely NOT!!!!!!!!!!!

Are u CRAZY??????
Our Gov. is already boarding on Communism! "Liscensing" is only another method of the giving away (or selling) of our God-given freedoms and responsibilities to an organization that is all too often ineffective and/or overbearing. I'm not against government at all. But too much is too much. Even though I can understand why some people would like to see this, I think government interference should ONLY be resorted to as a last-means effort at control. Problems with snake-keeping have not even begun to approach that level of a problem anywhere in the world. Education, morality, and responsibilty are the answers here--as they are in many cases--NOT Communism.

Not Free!
|
People tend to lack respect for things that are free. A nominal fee like the one for a Driver's License would be appropriate BUT I would not like to have Big Brother come knock on my door just for a visit. I have kept snakes for 37 years. Getting a permit will not make me be any more responsible or careful, just easier to find. Karl

Loss of freedom

I do not support licensing by the government because "they" then have control over my avocation. They would decide if I am qualified to keep venomous species. Are they qualified to make that decision? I think not.
I do not believe government of any kind can legislate responsibility.

Give up part of your American freedom and the rest is soon to follow.
You need to do another survey and give the option of changing the vote

Licensing
|
In Louisiana, one is merely restrained by municipal ordinances. A permit could supercede that. If it comes right down to it, I'd rather have legality on my side, having a permit than just taking my chances that I won't get caught. Plus, I like putting credits behind my name! As of right now, I'm legal because I'm outside a municipal area. And note, not all municipal areas in LA have laws regarding hots.

No thanks

It is purely hypothetical to suggest that a licensing program would be free. In the real world, nothing is free, especially if the gov't has their nose in it. Do another survey: Would you favor licensing venomous reptile keepers if it cost $500/year (and that's just for domestic species), if you had to make your facilities open to gov't inspection and if you had to pay a $1000/day for each day of non-compliance. I think this example is more realistic.

licencing

They (the gov) want you to have a lic. for everything and it is just to get revenue and control. It would not be free for long. You will need a lic. to eat and $hit next. It is just like guns. If people want them they will get them.etc. etc. etc.
P.S. It's not going to keep the idiots out there from getting venomous.

Permits

I don't think I would mind a permit system depending upon the level of government intrusion. I agree that the government can't be trusted, but if its get a permit or loose my animals, then give me a permit system!

Look at Floridas policy
|
yeah its hard to get a permit here and the penalties are severe, but it's neccessary in an environment where not only do loose exotics not get killed off by cold winters, but most species can thrive here. If you doubt me, look at the Caimen, parrots, Iguanas, exotic tropical fish, Tokay geckos, etc etc all living happily in colonies here in the wild.
Imagine a pair of Forest Cobras get loose and live happily ever after.... Just my $.02
