Catching snakes

I catched my first snake when I was 15 years old! It was a Bitis arietans (Puffadder) in Kenya. It was a very nice puffer! So cute!!!
My first snake i have bought was a Lampropeltis triangulum hondurensis (Honduran Milksnake) when I was 14 years. 2 month later I bought a male for my femal Honduran! Two month ago I got a present from my sister, it was a copperhead.
I am sure that this snakes weren`t my last!

I caught my very first non-venomous snake when I was about 8 or 9.My dad had taught me to identify venomous and non-venomous snakes native to our neck of the woods.It was a beautiful yellow and black speckled king snake.I was about 12 or so when I finally got brave enough to go for the "hot" ones,copperheads and rattlers were always fun.It was always catch and release though,if I kept every snake I caught,I would have to build a warehouse to keep them all in!I'm 32 now and that adds up to alot of snakes.

I was only about a year and a half old. I did not know what i was doing but i had found a small black snake and had taken it to my dad. ever since then i have loved snakes. And i bout my frist snake in 00. I've kept snakes for over 12 years. and have been bitton over 2000 times. never by a venomus snake luckly. Not to say all the close calls i've had with them.

My first snake was a Columbian Boa purchased from Hotlanta Reptiles (Mike Knight) . In Winder Ga. and he has been absolutely awsome

Age I caught a snake

My first snake was a corn snake. I caught him when I was 6. My first "hot" was a rattle snake. He was only about 2 ft long. I was 8 when I caught him. Not knowing what kind it was I just picked it up off the ground and put him in a small container. After I saw the rattle I wasnt about to put my hand in there to give him water. So I let him go. Now that im 14 I cant find a hot anywhere. Now that i know what to do with them.

Very Little!

I'm 12 still at the moment but I already caught 2 copperheads while I was in Arkansas for vacation. I set them free of course though, my mom would have freaked out if I brought them home. I wouldn't have even been able to get them on the plane! But I (currently) only keep non-venomous snakes such as amazon tree boas and constrictors.

first hot

I've been catching snakes since age 9, when I caught a garter snake. I've been in love with them ever since I just caught my first hot last week when I was herping in New Mexico. It was a baby prarie rattler, it only had a prebutton, and it was in august! What an early bloomer. I'm almost 15.

I learned that Garter Snakes ARE vicious little demons, no matter how gentle you are with them. However, they do tame quickly. I also learned that with the exception of Garter and Brown snakes, all other snake species in MA are very hard to find. So far the only other things I have found were one Northern Water Snake, one Black Racer, and the slough of an Eastern Milk Snake.

well i am 13 yrs old and i am a reptile nut. i love them. i do my own show and i handle! handle venomous and colubrid species of snakes. i have seen about 10 i just started looking for them alot in the last 5 years. i love snakes i have my own show, crew, and cameras, i love looking for them and i dont where any protection against the snakes. i caught my first snake at age 8 its was a brown snake and i was so proud. i will always love snakes and when i grow up i hope to have my more show on t.v.

Before age 6. Caught garter snakes when I was little. Remember something about picking up a red striped snake when I was about 5. I doubt that it was a coral. After having been nailed by several non-venomous snakes, I think that it would be best for me to not get a hot.

I cought my first garter snake at the age of 6, I brought it home and my dad told me to get that damn thing out of the house!I got that same speech until i was 18 and moved out. I am now 27 and i have been keeping ven. for about 7 years, he moved to oklahoma about 8 years ago and he see's copperheads all the time. through some coaxing he has now cought 4 for me, and my last trip to see him he spent many hours hunting with me! The things dads will do. (ps. my first hot snake was a copperhead)

...when i caught my first Berus,,the STUPID way!!LOL!
I believed then that they had to be pinned with a forked stick and then necked .
Then i read Tony Phelps "Poisonous snakes" and started tailing and playing like a yo yo ,pppppheeew! Dont know how i got away with it for so long.

many copperheads

I am working on a jobsite in Maryland,that we started in last spring..while walking down the rocks..I saw my first copperhead..since then I have caught more then 30 of them..I see at least 2 a day or 8 to 10 of them..also caught large garters,ringnecks and very large blacksnakes.this is a snake lovers paradise

I was three when i first picked up a snake, it was an eastern garter in back yard. Last year, when i was twelve, I caught my first hot herp. I t was a Northern copperhead I found in my woods. Since then i've caught C. horridus, and several other non-venomous herps.

when i was 4years old i picked up a copperhead by the tail and swung it around like toy .after that accident my mom had lock latches installed to keep me in the house.i could not go outside without adult supervision.

First Snake

the first snake i ever held was a Waglers Viper at the Snake Temple in Thailand. The first hots i ever caught were
1. A Northern Copperhead in Cabin John, Maryland
2. A Black Whipsnake in Townsville, Australia.
3. An Eastern Brown !!!! in Townsville, Australia

er, first snake I think I was 12...it was a garter snake. It was probably about a year old, give or takea few months. IT just died this year (I'm 17). Cat dragged it in after playing with it.
My first hot? AIn't got it yet, but I will when I move out of Colorado and get my own place. :)

My Catching Experience

I started out young in washington, heh, real bad for snakes. Real little, dad showed me a garter guess it got me hooked till i got to Virginia where i am now. First catch here was a pretty good sized black ratsnake. Yet for a "hot" snake. Witch im hopin to be a copperhead.

I started catching northern and yellow bellied water snakes at age six. I came across a northern copperhead at age 8, and nearly crapped my pants, I came from a snake abhoring family. I stuck with non venomous, reading and learning all I could about snakes and reptiles. At age 16 my friends and I started trecking up the mountians after timbers and northern copperhead. I've had venomous for 10 years now.

I was 5 when I caught my first snake, a Black Racer. That was also when I received my first non-venomous snakebite! :-) We lived on Wilmington Island just east of Savannah, Georgia and the undeveloped areas were thick with snakes. I also remember my brother, who was 9, going herping with some older boys and bringing home a Black Racer. We kept it in a 10 gallon aquarium in our bedroom for about a week. We ended up keeping many snakes at that age, but we would always let them go a week after we got them. Roughly in the same era, a small Eastern Diamondback that was crossing my street became the center of attention for the entire neighborhood. We stood around it in a big circle. Everyone was afraid to go near it, and finally I got tired of it and started for the snake. Someone had to grab me by the back of the shirt to stop me! :-D

The first hot was an Eastern Coral at age 12 in 1952. I'd been keeping Waters and Rats since age about 5 or 6. I seem to remember that the very first was a Ringneck.
The Coral was released a couple of months later in favor of a Southern Copper, soon followed by a Timber Rattlesnake and, the next year, an Eastern Diamondback, which gave me my first, close call.
My mother was a tolerent and long-suffering woman.

Had my first hot at 9, juv. A.p. leucostoma. Was a short relationship. Next, at age 13, C. horridus and A.c. mokasen (field only). Only "hots" I was allowed to keep in the house at that age were rear fanged models. Wow, buying Oxybelis in a pet store for $14.95 (no kidding), think that will ever happen again? LOL
