I use tubes for everything from removing eye caps to forcefeeding. Less stress on the snakes and me!

I agree with SwampY on his comment: {This needs a third option "only when absolutely necessary"}

The only time is when it becomes necessary for the care of the snake, like husbandry, or for the educational purposes involved in the Educational programs that I conduct, but it's gotten to be a rare event for me, besides the stress on the snake, you can injure the snake even trying to be careful, it's alot safer not to pin and alot less stress on the animal, and on me! It should be done only when you have no other option.

NO for the most part but there are times when you have to
such as treatment for a mouth, nose, face or eye injury or
during force feeding.

Only as a last resort for maintenance of the health of the animal. I can count the number of times I have done it on 2 hands over the 14 or so years that I have worked with venomous snakes. My ultimate goal is to still be able to count on two hands years from now. Both in # of occurrences and # of fingers.

Only for force feeding. Everything
else can occupy the realm of the
tube.

I only do it when I need to for health/husbandry. There's no other way to give oral meds or forcefeed that I know of.

Never, there are always many folks willing to do it for me! LOL! One bite is enough. Really though, I can't really think of any reason to, other than venom extraction. Eye caps, probing, and such can be done with tubes.

Pinning Snakes

Pinning snakes stresses them, but, sometimes it is needed for husbandry that can not be accomplished otherwise.
Pinning snakes and holding them to show for educational purposes has been done for a long, long time. And, it can serve that purpose.
It also can be done by folks who just want to show off themselves, and try to look cool.
No matter what the reason, it will greatly increase your chances of gitting bitten.

Although this shouldn't be done frequently, sometimes it is neccecary to pin a snake; i.e stuck eyecaps, forcefeeding and in certain places venom extraction. However, this should never be done by an inexpirenced keeper regardless of wether the snake is venomous or not.
