Barr hands down
|
Easily, the winner would be Brady. It takes a lot of muscle to capture 18 foot alligators and crocodiles, and as Steve's exercise is walking around Australia Zoo I don't think he would be up for it.
And to BwViper, who commented on Steve's (brutal) techniques, I would like to mention how many time he got bitten (and yes, he HAS been bitten by a venomous snake), not to mention a wide range of harmless snakes, lizards and even alligators. Have you seen the surgery he's had to go through because of his injuries?
You claim he 'is not scared of anything...that means you just admitted he takes stupid chances. He encourages kids to do the same, how many kids see Steve then want to try it for themselves? Another thing you mentioned....yes his shows are staged. Anyone with half a functioning brain can see that his 'encounters' are staged and the poor animal is drugged or a venomoid - they are hardly 'trying to kill him'.
Oh, and does anyone know why Steve disturbs these animals? For entertainment - with Brady (DR. Brady Barr!) it is for science and conservation. Steve loves animals, no disputing that, but so does Brady.
Brady could kick some Irwin ass anyday!

Irwin VS Barr
|
There would be no contest here. If anyone thinks Barr would win you just jumped on the wrong boat. Steve would be clearly the strongest of the two, due the the activities he does, rock climbing, swimming, etc.... You can't beat natural strength, period.. Steve always grabs the animals with his hands not a feild hook. He has grabbed some of the meanest, most deadly, most powerful animals in the world, not with a hook, but with his hands. He's just not scared of anything. Some of you say he hasn't had enough close calls, thats because he has the experience and the ability to manipulate the animals properly. Even if his shows were set up which they aren't there is no doubt that the animals Steve mess with are trying to kill him. He always gives great information and he loves his animals. Anyone who has messed with venomous snakes as long as he has and has NEVER been bitten by a venomous snake, I would say MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT, unlike some of the others.. Hands down Barr would be the pinns and Steve would be the bowling ball and plow straight through the middle of him. Keep it up Steve!!!

OK people.........................i have a few questions for you: WHO HAS THE PhD IN HERPETOLOGY? WHO HAS THE REPUTABLE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC VS. ANIMAL 'pathetic waste of TV channels' PLANET? it is obvious who is the better herpetologist is...................................................................................................................................BRADY BARR!! steve irwin just goes around and annoys harmless little snakes ............. while Dr. Barr tackles 16 foot crocodiles without breaking a sweat..................... Brady can handle any snake or crocodile and he would kick Steve 'pathetic excuse for a herpetologist' Irwin's butt faster than the blink of an eye! Brady is fun to watch and i have learnt so much from his shows....... he has the best personality, charm, sense of humour, the most experience with animals, a great way with people and he's much smarter than Irwim......... NOTE: DR Brady Barr........... not DR steve....... plus Brady's cuter! PUT IT THIS WAY................. IF BRADY AND STEVE WERE CARS................ STEVE WOULD BE A PILE OF JUNK AND BRADY WOULD BE A GLEAMING PORSHE!!!!
i LOVE brady!!!

Steve Irwin stages all of the animal encounters on his show.
If you Pay close attention to Brady Barr you will notice in every segment he does he has a local "expert" or scientist with him, and in each one you can hear him say "What is that?" He only knows what the local guy tells him.
Irwin only knows because he has time to research, place and pretend to find the animal. Watch and note that the camera man got to the animal first.
O'Shea is a world recognized researcher and what he finds on his show is real. but he needs to make his show more entertaining for non-herpers.

Have you actually watched Irwin's show? He is perpetually dragging wildlife out of their burrows, nesting sites, or other natural locations and handling them for long periods of time. Even HE says" By crikey, this little beuty's getting very, very nervous and riled up . Better let him go." Irwin almost always seems to be a little too "hands on".

plsu all of you who think his shows a fake are retards, some of his animals he works with are from his zoo, but he doesnt hide it, and theres no way in hell any of the wild animals he finds arent trying to kill him as much as the animals barr finds. that green mamba in the tree was great!!!

Brady the Croc Doc
|
In a boxing match, steve would have trouble handling the "ring girls" with the round cards between rounds. Brady on the other hand would employ the "reverse tomahawk, scuttling crab with a double suspension gallop" and KO him in the 1st. Good Luck Brady....will this be a pay-per-view bout? RP

LOOKIN' AT THE FACTS
|
Being the Southern Belle that I am I ONLY want to see reptiles on t.v. I've seen both Barr and Irwin at work and I watch to get important information in case I come face to face with a reptile (my phobia). I find that Steve would be the one to watch in case I am attacked at the zoo or interested in a zoo reptile job or moving a reptile from place A to site B(highly unlikely).
BRADY BARR is the one I watch for the information I need. I am often at the beach and in the Tampa, Fl. area(gators everywhere). He has recently done shows on Sharks AND Alli-crocka-gators. Mighty useful stuff for a Beach Bunny.
But SERIOIUSLY my feelings (phobias)haven't changed but...I am more informed. i feel more comfortable with the info I am given. He's easier on the eyes and the ears. I just wish he was on more often...Maybe doin' a show on the animal dangers in Georgia(I mean other than Buckhead) ???????

Brady Barr For Shure
|
Brady Barr would Mop the jungle with Irwin. With Brady's lightning quick reactions and exceptional had eye coordination, it wouldn't even be close. If need be Brady could always resort to the two fisted bludgeoned to finish him off. Of couse Farmboy would be there to "Kick The Asses" of the rest of the Ausies and Geg would instigate the whole thing and have our backs. Big Daddy could have a drink at the bar and supervise.

Irwin vs Barr
|
I believe that Dr. Barr would win, but he would ask his crazy buddy Geg fro backup in order alleviate any risk of loss to the venomous reptile expert community. It makes good darn sense to me. His buddy Farmboy would be a good alternate, however he may be easily distrated by Steve Irwin's beautiful wife....we cannot afford that risk.

Dude, you must either really love Brady Barr or hate Steve Irwin. Or both. Don't you have better things to do than to screw with this survey? You know, I can fix it if I want to.

Brady Barr
|
in reverse is Barr Brady as in South Park's Officer Barr Brady! "Move Along, Nothing To See Here!" LOL...Well this one is supposed to be all in good fun. As for professionalism, handling, etc...Brady didn't look too professional running through the woods at night up to the Golden Lanceheads and then realizing that they were in the trees all around him! O'Shea looked like a fool getting bitten by a Mole Viper (Stilleto Snake) and Steve Irwin looked pretty bad crouched down on top of a Timber Rattlesnake. These are just a few of many examples. The bottom line is, correct information or not, these guys are acquainting the general public with the idea that all snakes aren't bad and don't need to be destroyed on sight. I, for one, appreciate the time that they have put into the Public Relations arena of my "hobby."

Dr. Brady Barr vs. the faker Steve Irwin
|
Who has a Ph.D in herpetology? Who has the reputable National Geographic vs. the sensationalizing Animal Planet? Who refuses to allow camera crews along on his bogus croc shots? Steve Irwin that who. Do you want to listen to some twit with backyard knowledge or someone who has worked in the field and has been published! My vote is for Brady.

That's not a fight...
|
If Dr Barr pumped Irksome Irwin's stomach, like I saw him do
to some alligators, I suspect he'd bring up nothing but over
emphasized adjectives, misrepresented "facts" (my favorite
is "...all reptiles lay eggs..."), and some foul smelling cliches
drenched in Fosters and Vegemite. (That's why no channel
runs his show in Australia). Both Barr and Irksome have
energy and adrenaline but one's a scientist and one's a cash
cow. I'll back the Yank.
BTW O'Shea puts me to sleep.

Barr is the real deal -- that's authentic fear in his face -- for good reason -- he's dealing with reptiles in the wild. Plus, he has a legitimate reason for handling reptiles. It's real science! -- anonymous

A couple of weeks ago Brady Barr was shown free diving with great whites - no SCUBA, no cage!!! I don't see that girl Irwin mixing it up with the most ferocious predator on the planet. Great whites make crocs look like poodles.

Barr is real

From what I understand, a lot of what Steve Irwin does involves captive (and therefore mellower) animals. Brady Barr is always dealing with wild animals in the field. Therefore he is tougher, therefore he would win!!

Brady, Hands Down
|
Come on people! Everyone knows that Steve's critters are half-drugged, milked, and otherwise rendered harmless before he gets anywhere near them. Brady's the tougher of these two-- and he doesn't set a bad example for the kiddies, either. He'd have Steve pinned faster than a Nile Crocodile.

Steve vs the rest
|
Well, Steve is the most personable of all the players here. O'Shea....don't like how he handles snakes AT ALL! He seems to approach them with less respect and more fear. That's what separates him from the rest. Jeff Corwin is even more respectful of snakes! Brady Barr...well, I just saw him for the first time yesterday. I liked him. He had an ease with snakes that I can appreciate. However, hands down....the winner is Steve! Steve may be a little more excitable, but that's just how he is. He respects the snakes, other animals, the crew, his wife, and the viewer. It's pretty hard to find all that in one person. And to top it all off, he's working to build his zoo.
I know that a lot of people eschew his presentation. But, what it all boils down to is that he gets the message across, and he entertains while he's doing it.

Survey
|
I appreciate both Steve Irwin and Mark O'Shea, recognizing that they each have a very different approach and style.
Steve has taken the showman's route, trying to transfer his respect and passion for reptiles and other wildlife to the masses by playing to our accident watchers orientation. He's trying to spark an interest in conservation in the average person along the way. He's also bankrolling Australia Zoo, but as a capitalist I have no problem with that.
Mark O'Shea is definitely more the scientific researcher. He's looking for more exotic species for the purposes of classification and study. His shows are obviously much less scripted and I appreciate the fact that they often show the frustrations of someone in the field attempting to collect data on mobile, elusive subjects.
Both fill their niche quite nicely.
