I just learned tonight.......
April it will be illegal to keep venomous in KY. They will be grandfathering animals already here but you need to be able to show that you had them before April 2005 when the law goes into effect.
One more state falls!! Which one will be next?

I guess we have spread so much freedom overseas that we are running a little short on it here in the USA.
And I just moved to KY because I figured OH was going to fall soon due to all the recent bites.

We talked about this until we were blue in the face for several years. Our position was that where no laws existed, venomous keepers needed to spearhead a move to create a permit system, otherwise they would face total prohibition. It's happening all across the US. SIGH.

Yes, action is needed but unlikely. You know from your experience as SHHS president that 80% of the people will just sit on their butts and let the 20% left do all the work. Just look at my experience so far with the formation of the NEAVB. I can't even get 100% of the keepers out there to get on onboard. They would rather do nothing and hope they don't get bit and pray that the local Zoo will come to their rescue. As you know this generates very bad press and further fuels the BAN the dangerous mentality people outside the hobby have.
Furthermore, Stupidity is very pervasive in this hobby. Look at Bush_viper17's & timberrattlesnake89's profiles. What were the adults in the pictures thinking?? Why is a King Cobra being handled by MINORS. Why is the damn snake out of it cage in the first place? No HOT snake should be out of its cage for Show & Tell... This act could be considered "Reckless endangerment" and charges filed. If the pictures get taken down I'll send them to anyone who requests it.
This stupid crap has to stop but who's gonna do it? The State Legislators because the vast majority of keepers will sit on their butts and do nothing or say nothing.

why did my name pop up? the snake was out of its cage because I was learning hands on if you will. Even if we cant keep snakes, they are still there in the wild for us to see I guess. Oh well, lets blame me. We have to blame someone for all of this madness. Ill get over it though.

Yeah, stupidity is pervasive, look at phobos profile. Why was that snake picked up? He could have taken a picture of the snake on the ground. Why were his hands anywhere near a venomous snake? If the picture gets taken down, Ill send it to anyone who requests it.
