The funny part is how he says "keep your eyes on the snake and don't get distracted", yet he is looking directly at the camera. Not to mention 18 and has kept hots for 5 years. He must have pretty cool and responsible parents. You would think that after all the criticism from stupid pics like that that noone would be posting them, especially with all the anti-venomous talk and bans, yet they still do. I guess it's cool to show people pics of yourself holding a hot snake, especially when you're in your teens and bulletproof. It almost seems like some people want hots banned, or don't care. I can't figure it out.
What sucks even more is that these are the majority of the people who are sitting on there @sses letting everyone else fight for THEIR rights.

Jeremy:
I did take a picture of the atrox on the ground. However, the purpose of being out collecting that day was that the following week that area of the Tucson Desert was bieng bulldozed to become a "sports field" for the school that was being expanded on the property next store. The snake was SAFELY Bagged and relocated to a safer area. 50% mortality of relocated snakes are better odds that 100% mortality of being bulldozed or wacked with a shovel.
Keep in mind that I have 30 years experience working with hots and I have never freehandled one or even faked my death on the internet.
Maybe I should contact Georgia DEP and have them pay you a visit. As you are certainly emotionally unstable and unsuitable to keep venomous reptiles.

Hey Guys,
Take it easy. I know it is not that easy of a request. Especially, in light of out-right bans popping up everywhere. We as a totally misunderstood hobby have enough fights on our hands without fighting with one another. Now, that doesn't mean that if you see something unsafe or questionable too keep quite, but rather maybe e-mail the person privately; that is if a e-mail address is given. It's easy to get all riled up when the hobby we all share and are passionate about existence is being threatened. I agree we need to police our own hobby or the goverment will be more than willing to do it for us. There are several things that our fellow hot herpers do that can affect us all. Take for instance the Baby O.Hannah add at Kingsnake.com a while back. It's gonna take more than lashing out at someone to get them to change. Take the time to talk with the person in question privately if possible and let them know of your concerns or maybe suggest a better method or route to take in place of their current practice or stance on something. Educate don't Segregate. Let's not go burning bridges when we might need them again. Remember there is strength in numbers... and that's what we are going to need to lobby to the powers that be to protect the livelihood of our beloved hobby.
Food For Thought,
Todd

Why did Phobos bring up the profile of bush_viper17?? I see nothing wrong with it. The picture currently on there is nearly identical to the one Phobos posts in his own. And I think both show irresponible handling. Both are simply showing off with there "trophies" in my opinion.

Maybe cause he is a KID!!! MINOIR!!! who is puting his parents at risk for child endangerment charges, Im with you all the way Al just tell me how I can do my part, here in Mississippi I have talked with DWFP and as of right now there is no laws going in to effect but there has not been a need for such laws. So one slip up by one herper here and bam new law.Now I just realized that my pic on my profile could be attacked or let me say will be attacked, The cobra im handling was being moved in to a bag and shipped to ?? I dont know it wasnt my snake. but my wife wanted to take a quick pic with our new camera so I struck a quick pose and bagged the snake for shipment I dont have exotic hots currently. But the main point of this post is we have to watch our p's and q's or it's going to be a national law befor long.

Herpman73:
Simply because it was brought to my attention a week or two ago and it was a classic example of people needlessly exposing themselves and others to an potential accidental bite that could be avoided. Why do you think there are few bites to speak of in the Zoo community? Because they don't needlessly handle the snake or mess around with it. They are not better trained than most of us are but are just more diciplined in their care & dealing with the collection.
The main difference in these to pictures are:
He is a minor and should not even be trained to handle exotic Hots since he cannot keep them legally in Georgia.
Adults should not be training minors in the first place how to handle Hots. They should be counceled to leave them alone. If somebody needs to be trained and is of legal age they should learn while maintaining that animal in captivity while under the direction of an experenced keeper.
Keepers should work to LIMIT their exposure to their animals by using trapboxes and other means. I just bought a rainmaker system for my animal so I don't even have to open the cage to mist anymore, thus limiting my exposure.
I am not a minor and it's perfectly legal to keep native Arizona Snakes. I have 30 years of Hot experience including Zoo work and being in the field around the world.
He has demonstrated his lack of sense for he posted himself & friends "Freehandling" Wild caught C horridus.
He demonstrated his emotional insatibity in several threads on this forum. Most reciently, faking his death on the forum.
Somebody has to speak up. This is a bite statistic waiting to happen. In light of all of the bites making the news if we can prevent one, somebody should take a stand. I did!

Even if Jeremy doesn't take a hit from free handling a hot, the photos he posts on this site certainly do not portray safe keeping/handling of hots. Why continue to disregard the wise counsel of experienced ones from this site?

Phobos:
I'm not sure we're looking at the same photo. Did bush_viper17 change it recently? Rattlesnake on a hook just like yours. I don't see any friends involved. Yes, he's a minor, but let's not discourage young people from going into the field to learn about venomous snakes.
What if the croc hunter (who I can't stand) had to wait untiil he was 18 to learn how to handle "deadly" crocs??

I belive the pics are posted somewhere in the photo album of this site. I dont think Al is trying to discourage young ones from field herping, maybe unsafe field herping. I spent some time looking through the bite section of the photo album, and if those pics dont discourage one form free handling, I'm not sure what will!
