When I see "ground rattler", I think pygmy, but this is taking into account my geographic region and knowing what is typical for my area. The term "ground rattler" though implies that maybe there's a tree rattler out there somewhere. "Buzzworms" is another term used for pygmy's because of their tiny buttons.
With common names, there is no right or wrong, there is only a term that is customly used in an area.
I've never heard the term swamp rattler, so does this mean they dont exists where I live? Im in the right spot for canebrakes. Not massasaugas though. So what!?
Yellow rat snake or everglades, which is the chicken snake? Take the black snake for instance. Is it the racer or the rat snake? In some places, it's both. With common names, it's all relative.
Scientific phylogeny is unmistakeable. Well, mostly anyway......heheheh :-)

I would imagine that in the South the timbers are no doubt called swamp rattlers too. Oddly enough, the locals rarely know the snake by what we even refer to them by as their "common" names many times. Hognose is a classic example. Most of us know what a Heterodon is. All of us know what a hognose is. But ask someone outside of the city limits and chances are you'll get a blank stare. Now, ask 'em about them "spreadin' adders" and I'll bet you'll get a response.

Ground rattler is an archaic term for the pigmy rattlesnake. I have heard many old timers refer to them as ground rattler. I have also heard the cane called the swamp rattler by older herps. Both terms are dying out.

Also, whoever posted anonymous, if you have a problem with me, then you need to address me off of this forum. Have some guts and make yourself known if you have a problem with someone in here. Dont be a puss. So, that being said, I hope you understand.
