I didn't read much of the posts. Just a few silly things stick out. I don't feed mealworms to rattlesnakes, they don't eat them. Lizards eat mealworms, not snakes. I feed Superworms to a lizard I adopted. See how confused you were?
I cannot stop you from badmouthing me. Little or nothing you believe about me is true. But you are sure having fun kicking me around for no good reason. I've called you bullies before and I'll call you bullies now. Don't you feel justified in your abuse? Would you like to beat me to death now? I cannot stop you, go ahead. If I had been bitten by a Green Mamba a week ago what would I care what you did, I'd be too sick right? So either way, you nail me to your fence and tell each other what a durdy lodoun sconc im bee un yu bee leet. "He never did anything right, he never asked anyone how they take care of their snakes, he never tried to get anyone to help anyone else, he was too serious, he didn't defend anyone else being picked on, he never talked about his snakes." Yeah, lies like that.

First off, I am not a venomous snake owner. Beyond the laws in my state (North Dakota), I just don't feel I have the experiance to own even a copperhead at this point, but I do everything I can to learn about these deadly beauties, but to and including taking 'survey courses' at North Dakota State University so I can learn about snakes properly. The closest experiance I have is a Western Hognose. go ahead...laugh. Closest thing I can have in my state without a permit, and the Hottest snake I feel comfortable in handling right now.
I stated that so everyone knows where I come from on this issue. I hate this being my first post but I have been following this story from the start and I have a few questions and comments.
Mike:
How did you get bit?
How did it feel after you were tagged?
What kind of damage did the venom do?
Were you able to get the animal properly caged before attending to the bite?
Did you have AV on hand?
Was it during feeding?
Was the media overplaying the condition of your animals?
Are you being hit with all the class A felonies like the story says or were you able to get a deal worked out?
I definately feel for you. Even though others will say "I told you so" I'd rather say "are you ok and will you be ok?" You have to remember that from the other owners' standpoint, this case really puts them into the spotlight. Now the soccer moms and Jack Thompsons of the country (who's only information about snakes comes from movies like "Andaconda", "Snakes on a Plane" and "Boa vs. Python") will be screaming that venomous owners are a public danger and no one outside of a zoo should own these animals. The biggest problem I personally see is not your experiance...we don't really know what your true level is so I personally feel we can't comment on that...but that you kept the animals illegally. Your state has laws for a reason...stupid or not...and the laws are meant to be followed. A case similar to yours in my state capital started a law that now makes it illegal for anyone but a zoo or state-run college to own venomous snakes, and now they may pass a law that allows the state to charge anyone that sells a venomous snake to a resident of the state with a class A Felony. So ND may be the first state to go after sellers (bill is still in the 'being drafted' stage but believed to pass if submitted).
This all happened because a guy was keeping a few hots in his apartment building, and one got out. Someone freaked out and called the cops, who arrested the owner and charged him with reckless endangerment to the public safty. He got 1 year in jail and a heavy fine, and the governor signed the bill making it illegal to own hots in my state.
If you had taken the responsibility to get the permit first and then the snakes, I think the guys here would have been a little less harsh with you. Not guarented, and I certainly don't speak for anyone else, but that is just my observation.

The people on here have been assholes towards me and others for a long time. They seem to enjoy it. That is how bullies are.

"The people on here have been assholes towards me and others for a long time."
No, just towards the impulsive, wanna be cool @ssholes
that are ruining a lifelong interest for most of us.
Noone is to blame for your mistakes, except you, so don't blame it on other people. If you did the responsible thing, you wouldn't have acquired a snake without knowing how to take care of it, you would know how to handle it, and the @ssholes wouldn't be giving you a hard time. If you asked for the care sheet PRIOR to acquiring your snakes, and didn't mention that you handled them with a midwest mini hook, then you probably wouldn't have been treated like a child, and the @ssholes probably would have shared their experiences. Noone is to blame but you. For every action, there is a reaction. You just didn't get the reaction you wanted, so it's everyone else's fault. It just proves more and more that not only are you not a responsible keeper, but someone that doesn't take responsibility for his own actions. I'm sure it's our fault that we made you buy those snakes too.

tj, absolute dead-center bullseye. I agree with every word. Rabbit, I believe it was you (correct me if I'm wrong) who wished envenomation on veteran keepers, then bought something as potentially nuclear as a forest cobra without having clue one how to handle it or care for it. Now you can't understand why other handlers aren't just bending over backwards to help you. You give private keepers the world over a bad name. Do the hobby in general, and this site in particular, a big favor and just GET LOST!

Tom and Bill, Very well stated! Many folks here went out of their way to help this guy, and he was not able to listen to any good advise. After he was told he should get rid of his mambas, he went out and bought a forest cobra! It really is ashamed that folks would sell animals like that to someone who is clearly not capable of caring for them, and not capable of protecting himself and others from the danger of the animals. Now he is going around bad mouthing the site and calling folks names, and will not respond about what happened concerning his mamba bite and the alligations about the way he was keeping his animals. Most sites would have banned him long ago. Actually, he came here complaining about how he had been banned from other sites like kingsnake. Perhaps if the webmasters here do not want to ban him from the site, they can just erase all of his new posts, and he will get the idea that it is time for him to seek help somewhere else.
Best Regards JohnZ

Its amazing how people can edit reality like you guys just did. Twist words. That sort of thing. No one yet has shown me where I have ignored anyone's advice. When I ask for someone to do that then the post is erased. So, show me where I ignored someone's advice. Go ahead and try. Its impossible. Why? It never happened. Now, look at all those places where people have badmouthed me for no reason. Lots of those. Why look, there are some here too....

Oh, by the way, I find ludicrous any statement to the effect that I have any effect on anyone else keeping their snakes. I am no one and am of no importance with no effect on anyone else. So don't include me in your conspiracy theories for or against keeping venomous snakes because its all silliness that I have never participated in. So please stop reading into what I am writing what you want to read there. It is obvious from your replies to what I write that is what is happening because it has nothing to do with what I said.

Michael,
I believe that the advice that people are referring to are from the post titled "Guide to How To Care For Your Pet Forest Cob".
I am cutting and pasting the incidents of "advice" to save space. Anyone reading this post is free to go back to the thread and read each response "in context" and I will make every effort not to misrepresent any responses here, while trying to conserve space.
LarryDFishel said "...I don't mean to add to your anxiety, but if you've never dealt with a big cobra before, you seriously might want to reconsider..."
Jeremy (Atrox788) said "...To the OP, im by no means trying to come off as harsh but the facts are the facts. You should not have gotten this snake and I urge you to look for a new home for it. Its the best for both you and the snake..."
MoccasinMan (Andrew) posted "...Don't become the next high profile tragedy..."
captiveherps posted "...Sounds like you should try to return the cobra if you can..."
psilocybe said "...Like has been said before...perhaps you should consider finding a new home for the forest...a big, aggressive, extremely deadly elapid that you admittedly have no experience with is not a good scenario for you or the rest of the venomous herping community..." and "...Again...consider finding the snake a home with a keeper who already keeps these animals and or has experience with them..."
These are just the instances where people have offered their advice that I have archived. There may be others in the other threads that got spawned about your need for a care sheet.
As for your negative affect on the hobby of keeping venomous snakes, I think that the newspapers all covered that fairly well when they showed that the HSUS was using the instance of the mamba bite to call for a ban on keeping reptiles.
Even if, as you have implied, it was not you who was bitten, the parallel is close enough that the result is the same.
Just trying to answer your questions.

Karl, with all those things you quoted you also know I placed an ad to sell it. Getting rid of the thing was easier said than done. Its not like I can ship a cobra anywhere. Its not like I could sell it to just anyone (I feel). I didn't take the opportunity to go to Hamburg because I didn't feel like travelling. But I thought I'd unload it in South Carolina. Wrong. I got sick and couldn't go. So, I didn't ignore anyone, I just couldn't unload it. That didn't mean I couldn't write a Care Sheet for it though, at least if people would tell me how THEY cared for them. I still intend to write a Care Sheet for it. I truly don't understand why it makes people so mad to have Care Sheets around, even if it is for a snake few people keep. ... I would have thought a Death Adder would have been far more dangerous than a Forest Cobra and people are keeping those and writing about their care. Oh well.
And the Humane Society had no affect on Indiana because there was no inhumane treatment.
