I'm not going to get into finger pointing; I think it's pretty clear what happened. This is also NOT bullying in the least nor has there ever been any bullying...just rock solid, honest, upfront and direct advice. The bottom line is that you have another novice in way over his/her head with keeping venomous snakes and doing so ILLEGALLY!! That to me, is the most important point here. If folks were obeying the law, there wouldn't be an issue. The other point is that those of us who have been doing this professionally, or, as serious hobbyists over a long, extended period of time with a proven track record really do know what they are talking about (but we're still learning and never claim to know it all) and the advice that "we" give is simply to help prevent someone from doing something stupid, or, endangering their lives (which go hand in hand). SOme of us speak from personal experience with past mistakes that we've made while some of us share observations from our own experience that may help someone else. Sure, we can be harsh at times but as seen by this unfortunate series of events, what we were trying to say over and over just happened. Someone who shouldn't be keeping venomous snakes went ahead and broke the law and despite the urging of the venomous community, this person did not want to heed good, solid advice and the inevitable happened; a venomous snake bite. And, now you can add another nail to the good 'ol coffin. I'm glad that whoever got bitten is okay as this event would have been tragic if a life was taken....keeping venomous herps is very serious stuff which is why some of us take this so seriously and with a certain amount of sterness in our replies.

I hope he comes on and gives us an account of what happened. I am so interested in how the venom affected him and how long it took before he noticed the effects. One thing for sure; I'm glad he pulled through and I hope he only gets a slap on the wrist and gets some more expierence before obtaining new snakes..

Yes, Rabbit is the guy bit by the Mamba. All of his snakes were all poorly kept...many dead. Scale rot...feeding meal worms to rattlesnakes.
Humane Society is jumping on this and will get some mileage out of this case of abuse.

Who woulda thunk a guy keeping mamba's and handling them with Midwest mini hooks would ever get bit? I'm surprised.

As I've said, you guys have made up your minds so there is no points addressing anything. If someone asks for advice they are told they don't know enough to be keeping venomous snakes because it should have been gained while keeping some other snake. If they don't ask for advice then they don't know enough to keep venomous snakes because they aren't like any other kind so they should be asking questions. That is how your witch hunt works.

If we are missing something, fill us in. Are you OK?... that is the first question in my mind. How did it happen? Did you have AV? Did you have the proper permits? What is the disposition of your animals? We are very aware of the inaccuracies and bias of the press. Set the record straight. If you don't, no one else will. Whatever happened it is something we can all learn from. Don't let this opportunity to get something positive from a very serious situation slip by. Do the right thing and you will be respected for it. Do nothing and...

Sounds very defensive . . . which I guess is understandable. The simple truth is, a) people who aren't qualified to keep hot snakes ought not do so, b) if they are and do, they should maintain them humanely and safely, and c)they ought to obey all applicable laws pertaining to same. Anything else is irresponsible and stupid. Case closed.
