Hi. I went to the Columbia show this weekend, and took my wife. We stayed at the Econo Lodge, which offered a discount if going to the show. When we got to our room, and turned down the bed. We found pubic hairs and blood stains. I went tothe manager and her offered another room, which didnt have blood stains, but more pubic hairs than the other. We left their immediately, and found the Quality Inn not far away. When we got to the room, it smelled like ammonia. There was a huge puddle of piss in front f the toilet. My wife grabbed the phone book to look up another place to stay, and taped to the cover was a razor blade. (wonder what thats for) We finally found a Hampton Inn. Just wondering if anyone else had a similiar experience. If I visit that show again, I sure won't stay over night at the place offering the show discount.

Sorry for the bad grammer, I was in too much of a hurry. I thought I posted this earlier and had it removed, still not sure if I completed the post the first time.

Hey Shane,
LOL, that sucks you had such a bad experience with your hotels. If you go back to some post put up after some of the past shows, you will probably find that most hotels around most of the venues suck. Unless, you want to pay for a high dollar room. The Econo Lodge is much better than the Red Roof Inn, IMO.
However, I know that as tired as I was Friday and Saturday night, there could have been razor blades, pubic hairs, toe nail clippings, or someone elses dirty underwear, I would have still passed out on them. This show wore me out pretty good. I was just happy to get some sleep those nights.
I hope you had a good time at the show though.

I agree with Sal, the Econo Lodge is still much better than the Red Roof Inn was at the last show. We got clean rooms there and no major problems.

I typically stay at Holiday Inns, Hyatts, etc and have never encountered any of those problems. What a nightmare....yeah, my wife would have been waiting in the car to drive back home after that episode.

The biggest problem with most reptile shows is the the fairgrounds, etc where the shows are held are usually located in the oldest, most industrial, and most run-down parts of the towns. What hotels there are, often reflect the quality of the folks now living in those parts of those towns.
The good thing about those areas though, is there are often places / buildings, where shows can be held that are fairly inexpensive to rent, which helps keep the cost of the tickets to the shows reasonable.
Just never make the mistake of taking a black light into one of those hotel rooms, LOL ! If you think the rooms are nasty in the day light, you can not imagine all the interesting "things" in those rooms that will florese under UV light at night, LOL !
The drive to the reptile show last year in Spartenburg took us through some of the most "scienic" ghettos that city has to offer on the route to the fairgrounds, LOL. Every street corner had "folks" out selling all kinds of "items," all of which no one would ever want to stop and purchase ! North Columbia is not that bad yet, but give it a few more years, LOL !
At one time these areas were the prime, thriving part of those cities, however, with modern expansion these are now the oldest, most run down, and often most dangerous places to visit. Progress I guess !
Best Regards JohnZ

We are sorry that people had problems with the host hotels. We set them up because they are close to the show. Cathy, myself, Monica and Jason always stay in the Venue. We will try to do better for the next show.
Sincerely,
Danny Elrod

Have you ever seen a hotel maid pushing around a cart with a stack of comforters? THEY WASH THEM MAYBE ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR!!! And that's pretty much true just about anywhere you go. I've even stayed at a $250 a night hotel where I noticed the same thing. So never lay on the comforters.
I was in a hotel in St. Augustine once, and we turned down the comforter and found a huge fecal smear! We left. I have definitely noticed that the cheaper the hotel, the filthier they tend to be. If you're paying less than a $100 a night, you should probably bring a can of Lysol and some sleeping bags. Turn down the sheets and sleep in your bags! And never walk barefooted in a hotel room either.
Hey, don't they make a portable blacklight?
