No, Tim. I didn't know that you had been bitten since the beginning of the year.
If you would care to share any particulars, pictures, etc, I keep a very discreet file on reported snake bites.
My email is buzztail1@hotmail.com and anything you'ld like to share would be greatly appreciated.

Karl, your discretion in gathering this information is extremely laudable and appreciated, but I think it would be interesting, without revealing the names of any keepers, to see a list of the species involved. Of the captive snakebites I have known, C. atrox has been the species most often implicated. It would be interesting and perhaps helpful to see which, if any species are more often involved in actual bites.

Tim,
Besides the atrox bite, didn't you also get bitten by a Gila, within that time period?

I really only track things that happen in the US.
So far, starting on January 1st 2010, I know of bites by Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake (Crotalus adamanteus), Puff Adder (Bitis arietans), and African Coral Cobra (Aspidelaps lubricus).
I am sure that many bites happen that I don't get data on but the ones that I can gather, I do.
Most keepers that I get data on, don't want it shared. And some don't care as long as I don't reveal their names. To be fair, I don't share anything other than that there was a bite unless I get specific permission.

Good thread Karl. This past May, I got bit (first bite) by a sub adult male Trimeresurus puniceus. He got me with two fangs in the right thumb. It was thru a bag as well. Pain and swelling started immediately and slowly started spread into hand. Since there isn't a specific antivenom for T. puniceus, we elected to go with Thai Red Cross Green Pit Viper Antivenom. I recieved it in under two hours after the bite. The AV worked extremely well as I had no necrosis nor any other permanent damage to thumb. The bite happened at 5:15 pm and by the next morning at 7am, I was out and heading home. The swelling in my hand lasted for a week and then that subsided. I did have to deal with a swollen thumb for another three weeks and that was it to the extent.

My bad. My atrox bite was last year in April.
And Randal, the gila bite was 3 years ago with no envenomation.

Have not heard about anyone getting bitten by a Aspidelaps. Please post what you know about this on my Facebook Aspidelaps Page under the discussions topic.
