I emailed william healy and he replied in his email (after 5 of them) that he was not aware of people getting sick due to the conditions of jamil temple. Maybe they pet a camel and didn't wash their hands causing their illness.
Maybe he is just money hungry and doesnt care about the people coming to the shows. Sorry if anyone knows him personally and this makes you mad but based on what his email said that's how it makes me think.
I will be going to columbia on saturday and will reply to this thread on what I see. Ceilings, bathrooms, etc. Maybe i will try to find the air filters and see what they look like too.

I've gone to every Columbia show for the last couple years and not got sick. I'm not saying people didn't, but this is the only hot show i can get to. I would hate for it to not be availible or to have bad turnouts. I plan going to this show months ahead of time.

The ceilings looked fine to me...EXCEPT for ALOT of water stains on the ceiling tiles. I did not see any black stuff on the ceiling tiles (black mold)...BUT I did notice some newer looking tiles which may be the ones that looked bad before. There was ALOT of water stains on ALOT of the tiles which means there is def. a roof or plumbing leak.

It could be Cooties. There are lots of kids at these things. It's common knowledge that all girls from Jr. High on down are carriers of a latent form of cooties. Contrary to popular belief, you don't actually have to get kissed by icky girls to get it. Just being in close proximity to these vectors can transfer this unstoppable plague. It's pure science.

I was one of those that contacted John privately (as to not perpetuate more negativity for anyone). I did not go to this last Columbia show but did attend the one in question. Although I did not get sick a few in my family did feel ill for about a day.
The last few times I have gone to Columbia it was really crowded, which is a good thing. Nice to see so many interested in the hobby. Personally I believe the event has really outgrown the venue. I hope the show promoters would consider other larger options? I have noticed that when a guest speaker is presenting that entire corner of the show is grid locked. Surprising really since I have never seen a working microphone so past the 3rd row you can not hear anything (another reason a change in venue would be good).
John, I was unaware they had barred you from attending, how childish!! I hope they reconsider this and invite you back (if you want to go back?). Thanks for your concerns about the safety of those selling/attending the event, sorry it seems you are being made into a boogie man!

I attended both days at this show, and did not get sick. I just had to steer clear of the many live rodents that where there on Sunday because I AM sererely allergic to rodents, no doubt or question(ironic to be allergic to the food your own animals have to eat). Once away from them, I'm fine. IF my symptoms that I started experiencing in November were caused by something in the building that was not a contageous pathogen, those conditions have since either resolved on their own or been dealt with. I'm not leaning towards there being something in the building last fall that caused MY particular symptoms, though, due to the fact that within days of coming into contact with ME, every single person in my family became ill with the exact same symptoms, even though not one of them would ever set foot in a reptile show! They had the exact same symptoms I had, that lasted for the same amount of time and did not really respond to anything other than time, but all of us had respiratory issues that lasted throughout the entire winter, all of it starting with me. That leads me to believe that it was a pathogen, most likely viral, that got spread around by one or two sick people who attended, and as these things often do when you pack a large number of people into an enclosed space, it spread like wildfire. My own doctor suspected that it was a virus, though other than a test to rule out H1N1, I had no further tests done. If MY own symptoms were caused by conditions just in that building, I could not have passed them to people like my family members who weren't even there. I'm not saying that there WASN'T mold or mildew present at that time, but I don't believe it was responsible for MY illness.

Sorry just to clarify: My family and I did not attend the Columbia show this past weekend (March 2010) but did attend the one prior (fall of 2009).

This thread is also closed to further posting due to inappropriate behavior.
I understand that this issue has very passionate proponents on both sides, however, name calling is against site policy and cannot be allowed. Facts can be presented in an adult manner without resorting to childish name calling and accusations.
