Was a good show. As usual, the crowds came in looking for certain species that just seemed to be out of season (kouthia, gabonica, nasicornis). Overall there was a nice mix of animals available, in good condition. I managed to come home with actually fewer animals than I came with! Weird.
I see the June show being solid with many eggs out there cooking and some snakes ready to drop and get the little fellas started well before the event.

HOPEFULLY Better show in June?
It was a GREAT show! You were not there Arin. How could you judge that?
I am only defending this because of your assine statement, because YOU were not there. It was a great turnout, over 1360 people on Saturday and over 800 on Sunday, which is great for the San Antonio Hot Show.
Every vendor said they did better than they ever did at our show.

If anyone's statement was asinine, it was yours Randal.
It is clear that Doug said the show was good, but, not great, as it was lacking animals that folks were looking for. And it is clear that Doug said that the June show should be better, as new born snakes will be hatched out by then.
And it is clear that in saying "hopefully, there will be a better show in June!, with more animals in season" that Arin was basing that on what Doug had said about the show. And it is clear that Arin even complimented you in saying "randal always does a good job!"
And you jump in and criticize him ? Perhaps you should read the WHOLE thread before you go out of your way criticize someone who took the trouble to comment on, and even compliment your show ?
Instead, like a typical show promoter, you toot your own horn, and all you care about is the number of folks through the door. Sure, that is "Great" for you, as it is money in Your pocket, no matter if the folks came to buy, or, if they came to just look because they were bored with winter, and attending the show is cheaper than taking their kids to the zoo.
"Every Vendor said they did better than they ever did at your show" ? Really ? You must be a busy little bee to be able to run around and talk with "every" vendor.
Perhaps some of those vendors will chime in. If they really did all that well, then perhaps Chance is right, and the economy is picking up.
Best Regards

Whoa! How hang on just a second little buckaroos!
Perhaps my initial post was read wrong. What I was trying to establish is that in the snake enthusiasts realm supply and demand are very finicky and tough to forecast. This show, many of the people coming in were asking for albino monocles, rhino vipers and gaboon vipers. I had one pair of adult gaboons and they were out the door in the first ten minutes of the show. Last show, everyone seemed to have albino cobras, rhinos and gaboons. Vendors packed up most of these and took them back home with them. I traded mine off to another vendor as I didn't want to bring them back. People wanted puff adders and tree vipers at the last show. They sold out fast. Nobody could give away the albino cobras. End of this show I took home some Atheris at an awesome deal, because a vendor didn't want to take them back. My puff adders went the entire show without hardly being looked at. You just never know what people are wanting at the moment. As well, people don't always know what months are best for neonates. Last show Red Carolina Pygmies funneled out the doors quick at a high price. Next show I should have well-stated young, they will probably sit on the table overlooked.
Randal put on a great show, and a very professional one at that. He is actually a busy little bee and makes his way throughout the day to visit with vendors and meet their needs. Hell, he even brought me lunch on Sunday! I had a great weekend and turned a profit, as did all the vendors. People were actually buying, and buying high for things. I have always gotten from Randal that he is a herp guy first. He puts on the events more for a love of herps, the hobby and the camaraderie than for the money. He has a lot of headaches putting these on. I wouldn't do it.
So, let's back up a second and look at the entire thing. Good show, worth the effort for all involved and still by far a better way to pick up quality animals than any other avenue.

I see the purchase of non-essential goods like new "pets" (as loathe as we are to call them that) as a good sign for our economy. Goodness knows this country can use as much money flowing around as possible right now.

John,
We can agree to disagree. I thought, and still do,think it was a great show, with great attendance.
I wasn't tooting my own horn, I was defending my position. I am NOT a typical, as you state, show promoter. Ask anyone who has attended/vended at my shows and others. I CARE about the vendors, instead of money in "my pocket", as you stated. I have a "regular" job, so does my wife. If my VENDORS don't do well, they won't come back. Bottom line. Ask Doug how many times I asked him how he was doing.
I "do" run around around my show and ask vendors almost every hour how they are doing, my staff run's my tables, security, escorts venomous purchases out to the parking lot, etc. I hire these people to do that for me so I can gauge how the show is running.
I have, many times in the past, invited you to my shows, so you could see for yourself how the shows does and how I run it. I took Arin's post as he didn't think it was a "good" show, his quote was: "hopefully there will be a better show in june!".
What the hell was that? I thought it was a great show, and stated it. There was no need for that statement, and I stand behind that. If Arin, or you don't like it, then there's nothing I can do about that. Can't please everyone John, sorry. Why don't YOU promote shows, and see how it look's from the other side?
Randal
