and another thing I might add.
I have other Show Promoters, like TIm Cole's great "Austin Reptile Expo", and promoter Bob Ashley's "NARBC" Show, who also vends at my show. And they wouldn't come back IF I wasn't drawing a crowd and making the vendors happy.
I do the best I can do, and CARE about the vendors. IF the vendors don't prosper, they won't come back.
I do this for the love of reptiles and spreading the good word, about all things, "reptilian" LOL!
As I said, TRY doing your own show, and let me play "Monday Morning Quarter Back"!
John, I have always considered you a long time friend, and was taken aback by your post. I hope we can remain friends.

Randal, yes, you have said twice now that you think it was a great show, with a great attendance.
I hope you are not a typical show promoter, as that would be a very nice change from the ones who think only about how much money they are making. And, if you do care about your vendors, and actually go around and ask how things are going, that would also be excellent, and a great improvement over some of the shows in the SE part of the country.
I do look forward to visiting one of you shows in the future, and then I can judge for myself. Actually, I think it would be fun to set up a table there, and be a vendor, and see just what you texicans (or arkansans) can accomplish.
However, I still think you were out of line when you jumped on Arin for his comment. I read Doug's post the same way that Arin did, to mean that more animals would be available at the June show, and that this show was still good. Nothing wrong with good, especially if future shows are better. No one said that the last show sucked. If Arin had not started the thread asking about how you show went in the first place, you would not be getting all this attention about your shows.
There was no need for YOUR statement though, and I think there was more behind it. I have seen several of you older texicans go out of your way to attack Arin on forums, and make unneeded remarks. And I think this is another clear case of that. If someone else had made the same statement, I really do not think you would have said anything. Arin even said that "randal always does a good job." And you still jumped on his comment.
Younger herpers are the future of this hobby, and I do not like seeing older herpers who should know better going out of their way to attack those younger folks that they do not like. Yet, it happens time and time again. Young folks want to learn, and they sometimes make mistakes, but they learn from them.
Just recently, I watched a gang of well respected older herpers get together to get a young fellow from the UK banned from several forums. (Granted that the younger herper got on folks nerves, however, the older herpers "became" a gang of 13 or 14 year olds with the way they acted). They went out of their way to make snide remarks against that kid every chance they got, until that it got to the point that the kid was banned just to keep order on those forums.
Oh, as far as me promoting shows, I am thinking of possibly doing just that. There are opportunities to bring far better shows to far better locations in certain states. We have a base of like minded individuals who have the ability.
The question is though, is it worth is? So many vendors are just concerned with making money, with little concern for the future of the animals they sell. They bring in tanks with hundreds of lizards and turtles stacked all over each other. And, there are the nit-wits who go out and catch anything that moves, to bring to shows to sell. Those wild caught snakes are not helping things. And, there are the nit-wits who are producing tens of thousands of ball python, corn snakes, or king snakes for the pet trade. And, there are the nit-wit vendors who import hundreds of iguana lizards.
The more reptile shows I see, the more I question if they are a good thing, or, a bad thing.
Best Regards
John Z

Randal is like speedy gonzalas never stops .He is constantly going from vendor to vendor. My wife was sick and he took the time to make sure she was ok asking her a dozen times if she was ok.Also he made damn sure she had a place to sit down while I was running around.I also know he knows almost exactly what every vendor is selling and has sold.He also escorts the buyer out at times he is one moveing dude.He also has given me after care support on animals I have received from him answering every email I send.I have not been to any other shows but I bet other promoters do not do that.He is out there with the crowd and in the mix at all times.I was unable to make this show but you can bet I will be there in june.Randals show is a powerful experience for any one who wishes to attened .He in fact treated me and my wife just like family .Thanks again Randal .

John I know I made some comments to arin but he knows why and so do you .We are on the same page now and he has been very honest with me a rare thing for todays young.I like arin very much he needs us old cogers to bring him along and I will always be there for him I like him.The other young child you speak got a raw deal on the other site and I am still pissed about it as he did no wrong there at all.He asked good questions and was respectful admitting his mistakes and that showed good form.He dreams of snakes and I am with him on that. Why it was chosen to ban him is not my concern but I will say it was wrong and it made me very mad.You are right they are the future.Believe me when I say Randal is involved in every aspect of his shows he is one hell of a dude .You both are my friends and sometimes we get irritated here so this will pass I would bet.

Archie, thanks for adding to Doug's confirmation that Randal puts on good reptile shows. It does sound like he goes out of his way to make sure things run right. I am looking forward to attending one soon. Will be nice to see vendors who are happy, making money, and enjoying what they are doing.
Now days, that is sure the exception, and not the rule.
Randal as Speedy Gonzalas, LOL. I can see him wearing a big sombrero and shouting "ˇÁndale! ˇÁndale! ˇArriba! ˇArriba!" Especially, at a reptile show held in San Antonio !
Well, how about we get back to talking about venomous reptiles ?

Archie, I would like to.
June might be tough, as I have some work lined up for that month, and my 18 year old truck would only make it to Texas if I got out and pushed it about half the way, LOL. However, if things get back on track some, I might make it out there a bit later in the year.
Best Regards

My only issue with Arin is his profile - he's 17 years old and says he's been keeping hots for 11 years...really? Who in God's green earth is ready to work with hots at age 6? What parent would let their 6 year old keep a venomous snake? Anyway, I'm sure he's a good kid so no problems there.
As someone who coordinates a large special event (Reptile Rampage, Sunday, March 14), I know how hard it is to be the person in charge - you are literally running around with your head chopped off most of the time making sure people are happy, visitors are happy and that things run smoothly. Although my event is an education-only event, it's probably not much different than a live animal sales show; just with a different twist. I personally don't know how guys like Randall and the others do these on a regular basis - not easy.
