Thanks Doug.
If things do not pick up here in GA, I might just take you up on that.
Texas would be a good state to live in.
I turned down some good job offers there in the past, due to family concerns here, but, I have always wondered how different things would now be if I had taken those jobs.
Best Regards

What was the time frame between the broad band you had in a jar and the ven you kept properly after that? If you had that for a couple weeks when you were 6....Then I hope you didn't move on to naja by age 7. Just curious

I do not know about arin but I was actively keeping atrox at age 11 and had cought hundreds by age 17.Now I must admit that I was young .I did not let my son hunt venomous reptiles until age 12.At 12 he found many pictigaster as well as atrox blacktails and others.Tho I never let him have a venomous snake until he was 18.Not because he was not able but I just felt he was to young to understand the dangers involved. What was good for me was not good for him.Even now I just had top pick up his snakes just the other day at 25 .His wife and him decided it was not a good idea to have them around my grand daughter.I agreed as she trys to get in to everything. So I came up one gaboon one cherry bomb atrox and a very nice upton lepidus one of only 6 in captivity.Age is a factor in this hobby as far as knowledge and understanding of the dangers involved. The fact simply remains that we mature at different rates. The state has set the legal limit.Does that mean a 16 or 17 year old should be not allowed to own a rattler I do not know. When I did it I had no laws to worry about. Now we do.Some people have venomous snakes and should never of got them and they are older than me.I am here to support the young in any way I can to be a safe keeper as is most of us.But 6 is a little young to have a copperhead in a jar.We have had thid talk here many times look at old posts and you will see where arin has layed it on the line somany times and kept comeing back.I think he is here to stay and we should support him with all the advice and help he can get.If we do not he will do this any way and not have our help and that I can not stand for.I am not standing up for arin I am standing up for the young comeing up in this hobby as a whole he is included in that.I myself have been all over his ass and he stood like a man and said what he did was wrong and changed what he was doing. He loves this as much as any of us so there we are.

Simple solution for Arin - revise your profile! Although my philosophy of age appropriateness for keeping hots seems to be much different than most folks on this forum, it's none of my business although I will express my opinions. In this day and age when private rights to own hots much less any herp are being taken away, how do we justify our stance that its okay for 12 year olds to keep pet rattlesnakes in their bedrooms? From someone outside of our hobby, that's ludicrous (and for some like myself, equally ludicrous). We can't police ourselves and that's a big reason why we will continue to see ban after ban after ban. Oh well, I'll shut up on this thread.
BIG WEEKEND for anyone in the Chicago area...Reptile Rampage is on Sunday, March 14 at the Lake Forest Rec Center, 400 Hastings Road, Lake Forest, IL. We have over 75 exhibitors in this education-only event featuring Bubba the Alligator, Moo Shu the Chinese Alligator, Venomous Reptiles and everything in between. CroFab is our sponsor (MANY THANKS) and we expect over 1500 people through the gate - proceeds to help the Wildlife Discovery Center and ACES (American Crocodile Education Sanctuary). For more info go to www.cityoflakeforest.com (go to parks and rec and then to the wdc page)

Rob, I agree with your post.
My opinion is, ANY parent or PARENTS that allow a 6 yr. old to keep venomous snakes are seriously mis-guided or mentally challenged. (and I was being nice).

I agree with randal and rob .When I did it the times were different and I had a proper snake room.Today the age of 18 is very fair.I just think that we should mentor these young guys. With the issues we are going through age is a very real consideration and a guideline to be followed.Parents should never let a 6 year old keep a venomous snake. The question I will post as a new topic is should a 16 year old have the parents permission to keep a copperhead.

ok!!! i have had enough of this up thread, randal my "parent" was not allowing me to keep anything i went out and caught them, if im correct its a copperhead witch are native to texas, my mom never even knew, and dont say my mom should have kept a eye on me, because i was six and i loved to explore the forest, and like all six year olds i had a sense of adventure, i would not be going off like this, but EVERY TIME, i start a thread this is how it ends up, a damn lynch mob, no i am not ignorant or some redneck kid that lives in a trailor, some of you have met me and did not talk to my face, but you think your tough because you can do it behind my back on different forums, this thread needs to stop now, arin
