You are certainly right about one thing, John. I have watched this hobby from up close and from afar for all of my adult life, and there are VERY few people in this hobby that haven't done something that they'd rather not talk about. It doesn't make them bad people, and your mistake shouldn't necessarily make you a pariah. Almost everyone has gotten away with something, no matter how small or how egregious the infraction.

This reminds me of a story some years ago about a huge pro gun gentlemen leaving his loaded .45 in his nightstand knowing he had small childern in the house and then when the worst eventually happened with a small child accidently shooting himself in his home this same man suddelny became a champion of gun control and stricter regulations etc. What im saying is, if a person acts in a irresponsible manner and engauges in a illegal and/or dangerous act having the mental where with all to be totally aware of it and suddenly it goes wrong no one should have any interest in how they feel about the hobby or what not they perticipate in. The hobby didnt make anyone engage in a shady deal off a exit ramp with a black mambo on a leash, you did, and the other person in the deal did. Both adults. Thats all im going to say on this and i wish you a speedy recovery

OH,
ALMOST FORGOT.
Is the snake loose in south GA or does the seller have it?
If you are refusing to give law enforcement the name of the person who had/has the snake then you are truly an idiot.
If that mamba is loose and you are not warning the public you could end up with a manslaughter charge.

My occupation has nothing to do with it! It has everything to do with forethought and common sense. A polylepis is the most dangerous snake in the world!And...obviously you DID need to be schooled on handling Dendroaspis...I believe you got nailed before you even got the snake home...I recommend you lay low.

Tim,
I never said I did anything illegal nor have I been found guilty by a jury, and at this time I haven’t even been charged with anything, so please don’t reference something you don’t know definitely or can prove. Map quest where I live in proximity to the Ga hospital and you will see it is plausible that maybe I met the seller somewhere other then were the news said it happened and just went to the nearest hospital for treatment when bitten. I live in Fl less then 5 minutes from Ga state line. However I take 100 % accountability for my actions in this event and if found guilty of criminal charges under the circumstances that are known to me I will take any punishment given. I also take full responsibility for the bad media this has brought to the hobby. But again am willing to point out imagine the press we would of gotten if I simply ignored this issue and this guy released this animal into the wilds of Ga and someone totally innocent was killed, possibly a kid. (Before you start I am not saying this is the only reason I wanted to help or engage in the deal however, it was a factor in my judgment.)
As for your opinion of me not owning hots, I want to say well since you have never personally met me, know me or been able to evaluate my keeping skills. I find it hard for your opinion to matter much. You are simply passing judgment over a news article that alleges I committed an illegal act and was bitten in the process.

Sean,
I would never turn on this hobby but again we need to just be mindful of who we sell to from the start and equations like this will be less frequent. Thanks for your wishes.

Chad,
“Is the snake loose in south GA or does the seller have it?”
No the animal was secured and to be honest probably killed or injured in the process. If you guys would of given it time and asked these questions before you were willing to pass judgment I could of told you that. To be honest if I would never done anything from the start the animal would most certainly in the wilds of GA. Then the night of the incident if I would of never attempted to properly secure the animal I probably could of avoided the bite but the animal would of escaped. This is simply because it was improperly secured the start and trust me the kids had not intentions of possibly getting bit or caught with it.
“If you are refusing to give law enforcement the name of the person who had/has the snake then you are truly an idiot.”
I did not need to give them this information because trust me they had everything about both of us and most of the people I know in this community before I was ever off of the ventilator. However, I do want to ask you to refrain from using derogatory terms towards me or I will simply refuse to speak to you. I have my opinions of others here but you don’t see me calling or suggesting anyone outside their name. So please offer the same respect.
“If that mamba is loose and you are not warning the public you could end up with a manslaughter charge.” And that is back to the original root of what lead up to this issue. One of my factors in attempting to acquire this animal under these conditions was to see it never was allowed to be set free.
Thanks,
John

WLS,
The last I seen of this animal it was securely places back into the pillowcase that I tightly tied shut. However, under the circumstances and in fear of the animal’s total escape I didn’t exactly put it in the bag in the most humane means and I am sure it was injured. The kid then total lost it and left the area with the animal and in a panic. Which is why I choose to go to the nearest hospital because I was left all alone and had to drive myself or called 911, which would of, equaled the media attention I was trying to avoid. After all of this press and heat from DNR I am sure if the animal isn’t dead then it will be released into the wild or the kid will kill it and dispose of it if he didn’t that night. I know this sounds sad and I might get a gripping more so but under circumstances I hope he just killed it when he got home, if it wasn’t already dead and buried it.
BEFORE the question is asked I did not keep the animal because I needed medical attention ASAP and the kid was not about to help me get to the E.R. Also me going to the E.R. with this animal would have been immediate arrest and or expose others in the hospital to danger, as I am sure not too many E.R. staff are willing to restrain a venomous snake.
