They are all going to fall, and not just with snakes. These liberals are going to ban everything they can: guns, certain cars that aren't "fuel efficient," fun activities such as snow boarding and bungee jumping. Anything they deem to be "dangerous" and "unnecessary." If we were smart we would start forming networks of responsible and dedicated owners so we could keep our community going. I for one will not be handing over my pets or anything else to the government. I will keep those, they can keep the "change."

The government is doing the best they can to idiot proof anything and everything. Its literally getting to the point where Darwinism will no longer be a factor in the process of natural selection. At the very least not to the extent that it used to be. I for one am sick of the govt deciding what is best for "We the people". Seeing as they are no longer familiar with those words. Sounds like they need a reality check.

It's not even about idiot proofing things. It's about taking our rights away. We can't own snakes but the governtment run zoo's can, we can't own guns but the police can. It's about the government acquiring the rights of the people and they wont stop until we resist. Unfortunetly, most people don't care enough to do anything. Especially in our area of interest. Maybe they will when they come for their cats and dogs but by then it will be to late. I certainly think we have a right to own whatever animal we want for whatever reason we want. At the very least the 9th amendment guarentee's this.

Let me ask, if you live in a state such as PA or VA where our snakes are legal and they declared them illegal and demanded you get rid of them would you ?

Before anyone replies with an answer to the above question stating that they would break the law, be advised that law enforcement does check this website...
Take care, Marty

Get a load of this. They outlawed Electronic Cigarettes in public in the Big Apple. There is a horrible movie called Idiocracy. Check it out it's where we are heading as a society.

Sorry to be controversial, but all of the blaming problems on liberals (or conservatives) or the government wanting to control everything does diddly for solving the problem...
Until everyone realizes that there are at least two sides to this and that nobody is wholly right or wholly wrong, there won't be any reasoned decisions made in either direction.
For full disclosure, I don't keep snakes (hot or not)and have no interest in keeping; I simply enjoy their beauty and am intrigued by their abilities. I also believe that folks who desire to do so should have the ability to do so.
Having said that, how many folks here try to educate their neighbors , invite them to see your snake rooms, inform their homeowners' associations and involve their direct community in their hobby? I'm sure many do, but I'm certain that many more don't. I'm not really raising a privacy question here so much as the question of what percentage of those who are most passionate about their ability to keep these amazing animals take the time share their passion with their neighbors and help them understand that there is (generally) no risk to them or their children from your collection(s)?
Place yourself in your neighbors' shoes for a moment...Someone a couple of houses down keeps potentially lethal animals as (from your perspective) a hobby. I've got small children, what if one these things escapes? How will I protect my children? What if something happens? What if...?
These are not trivial questions that can simply be brushed aside; your neighbors need and deserve to understand that you are responsible and have considered their safety and their children's safety in designing your habitats. They also need and deserve to understand the value your "hobby" can bring to the community and to the world at large. It is your responsibility as a responsible neighbor to answer those fears and questions. If you, as a local keeper, don't educate your neighbors and your larger community, then they will continue to live in fear and misunderstanding and will work to keep you from (in their views) infringing upon their rights to security and peace of mind.
One thing my mother taught me well... "Your rights end where my nose begins." It works both ways, your right to keep is balanced by your neighbors' rights to feel safe in their homes.
Whether there is any risk from your charges or not, the perception of risk is what you must address and you must address it without complaints about liberals or big government-you are dealing with people who neither know or understand your passion. You'll get a lot more of them on your side by showing them the positives you bring instead of complaining about how you're being restricted.
Sorry for the long rant; people should have the right to keep hots, exotics, etc., but along with the right comes the responsibility for understanding the other side and realizing that most of the people opposing keeping are not zealots or evil, they are simply people with honest (albeit different) opinions than yours.

No Charlie0 you are 100% absolutely completely wrong. You have no idea what you are talking about, and since you don't keep snakes you have no place to talk. Lots of things are dangerous. I can leave my oven on and blow my house up. Are you going to ban ovens ? I can drink and drive are you going to ban alcohol or cars ? The truth is that everybody with basic common sense knows that large constrictors and venomous snakes that are kept as pets cause so little harm to people statistically that there is absolutely ZERO reason to ban them. Plastic bags, legos, and Tylenol kill way more people than any of these snakes. The only reason snakes and other pets are targeted is because far left (liberal) groups such as the Humane Society have an agenda to ban all pets and they are starting where they can make the most progress. Dogs and cats through attacks and spreading disease injure far more people then large constrictors and venomous snakes. If you are really interested in protecting people go ban dogs and cats. Some ones dog might get out and injure somebody hurry up go ban them and save a life.

This guy might actually be one of those big government Obama trolls that are paid to comment on news articles, youtube videos, and forums with government talking points. Make no mistake, the big government problem is caused by far left liberals. Support the Tea Party if you want to keep your stuff.
