I agree with anonymous. It sounds like a panic situation. It is my understanding that the victim was acting according within the scope of the law in Arkansas; however, he would be breaking Scot law. Perhaps a possible scenario:
-Victim picks up snakes
-Opens and inspects shipment
-Becomes envenomated (could be two fangs, one fang, a scratch)
-He panics because his life is in jeopardy and he cannot explain his ownership legally
The fact that he was found in a pool of his own vomit does suggest an envenomation. There wouldn't need to be any hospital nearby as he could expire rather quickly due to a recent envenomation from D. typus (all sp. were dangerous anyway). The enzymes in the venom wouldn't show up in any exams conducted afterwards. The unique twist of a lengthy, bizarre love affair behind his wife's back suggests the man is dishonest to begin w/ (if the story is true). This may also support a frightened attempt to remove any evidence of guilt by discarding the snakes if he shouldn't have them.
As far as him putting other's hobbies at risk. Maybe somewhat. This event has certainly put venomous herpetoculture (+ snakes in general) in a bad light. The media worldwide has enjoyed covering it and animal dealing. I read one ambitious reporter's testimony comparing the profitablilty of animal dealing to drug dealing. Pish posh!

Vomit is not just a sign of envenomation but can occur when a subject has a heart attack or seizure of some type. When a person dies they lose all bodily functions. So you could see vomit, urine and feces on the body.
The only way to know if he died from an envenomation is to do an assay for venom. Until this test is done we can only quess what happened to this gentlemen.
