I am glad I put the 'if' in the above as the rumour in one of the above posts of him being in the hospital for only an hour is utterly incorrect.
It seems much false information is swirling around. No doubt there will be a writeup for Toxicon that we can all scrutinise. Regardless, it is a public relations disaster

Thank You Dr.Fry I have been hopeing you would show up on this thread. To me this is pure crap ,you are correct the damage is done. These kinds of situations are when we should ban together .Yet I was and am sick to see all of the people who reasoned this was a mamba bite with no real evidence .The media states green mamba bite with no snake. The country is haveing a shock wave of snake hysteria over pythons. It seems every one wants to think the worst with out sound evidence.

Bryan, you are right, there is a lot of different information going around concerning this event.
And so far, no one making statements seems any more credible than any of the others out there.
Unless a mamba is found at the location, I am not sure that this will ever be resolved.
And you are also very right, that the damage has been done, the news papers have had their say, and no matter what the snake turns out to be, the public will now think it was a mamba.
Best Regards
John Z

Archie, read Dr. Fry's first sentence again. It sounds like you misunderstood.
As much as I want this to be a hoax, I'll believe the people who treated the man over 73'd hand rumors flying around Daytona.

Sorry Archie, to be more specific, I'm referring to Dr. Fry's second message which you might not have seen.

I did misunderstand but I still do not believe this story.I do not believe those who treated him,or those who support this idea or those who think the world is flat.Until a mamba is found this story is pure crap.I just do not believe.

Your belief may be misplaced. It is possible that the bite was indeed attributable to a green mamba. It is also possible that it was not. You may believe what you wish, but you should at least entertain the idea that it might be true rather than dismissing it a priori. Wishful thinking does not make either explanation true. There is still some need for skepticism although even that can be taken to the point of nonsense. This is not a case like UFO abduction or Bigfoot; animals causing the observed signs and symptoms that are green and can be purchased do indeed exist and may be present. As I said before, it might be more prudent to reserve judgment until more information is forthcoming.

That is very true.I just do not like how this went with all the inuindos .I am a person that needs facts .This story seem devoid of them.I am very aware that there is a small chance it was a mamba.Where I live there are no cotton mouths.Yet ask any fisher man and he will say they are every where.Yet I have been on creeks in east texas where the locals did not think alligators were. But I saw several every day I was there. So I asked the game warden if he knew they were there ,he said not around here.So I told him what I saw.He said some one released a pet.Twenty years later they are on the county listing.I was called out to collect a large snake under a house it was a 15 foot retic in west texas. It was lost as a 7 footer two years before and survived the winters .It was the same snake pictures confirmed that it was. With all the import export and cross country dealing with that species I know it is possible.I also think experts like Joe s. check there facts well before makeing the statements that have been made here.I just want the offending snake collected. So if it is a mamba some 3 year old child does not die.I WANT TO SEE THE SNAKE THATS ALL,THEN IT BECOMES FACT FOR ME.

There is other information that could confirm if it was indeed a mamba. Perhaps other avenues will be pursued. I don't necessarily need to see the snake, but some other confirmatory or exculpatory evidence that is more objective would be nice.
