Who has never heard someone say , " treat any snake bite as if it were a hot " . Anyone who hasn't seen a snake that was not on animal planet or discovery will do so . Who knows ? There may be some truth to the story , and that someone had a very close call . Instead of worrying completely and solely on this human beings wellness , all anyone can do is cry about the the hobby , and whether or not it will make it to the end of the year . Hobby's are model cars , trains . We are reptile enthusiasts .
Everything should be first treated in the worst case scenario . I'm sure it cost a pretty penny , but it was great he got one vial of antivenom . The victim , Venom1 , and the medical staff all responded the way they are supposed to given the situation . And i applaud everyone involved for a job well done . And if proven false , the media should be asked to correct it's story .

My! You folks been busy this weekend!
Easy senior Phillip, I was not mocking you. I was merely pointing out the obvious. “It ain’t a mamba ‘till the fat lady sings!” In other words; until they find a NON-indigenous snake in an albeit, non-indigenous species prone state, it’s just a bite from a green snake with symptoms very common to venomous snake bite.

Nikita,
Not to belabor the point too much (well, maybe a little), but the episode you described hardly qualifies as psychosomatic. You paniced and had symptoms typical of a panic attack. You might have had the same symptoms if you believed you had cancer or for that matter thought you had been bitten by a mamba.
The symptoms I'm aware of in this case are not typical of panic or stress.

Larry,
I condensed the story so it didn't take up too much space LOL. My point being the physician asked if I was short of breathe and magically I became short of breathe. He asked if I had radiating pain and once again magically it shows up.
Its a bit embarrassing relaying this story because I feel I should have had more control over my emotion than to feed into it and react like I did. I felt it necessary to tell my tale though to show that sometimes when someone expects a symptom then their mind materializes that very symptom.
The bottom line is none of us know exactly what this gentleman went through but from the limited information given we are left to question the incident amongst ourselves.

First of all, that's nothing to be ashamed of, it's very common. I've had a similar episode and I'm really not prone to panicing.
But again, manifesting heart symptoms like that is VERY common, partly because they are somewhat under conscious control and partially because adrenalin released when something frightens you causes symptoms similar to heart problems...which frightens you more...and so on.
That's easilty explained.
I'm talking about symptoms that are physically observable and not known to be common reactions to strees/fear...

This incident has created a lot of attention on venomusreptiles.org and a lot of people have been busily engaged in solving the mysteria and loose ends around it, not only here but also USark and other reptile foums have probably also chewed on this story..
If a person is seriously allergic, they can die from a wasp-sting. Wasps, being many species, some have more potent venom than others, giant wasps are known to be dangerous even to people who are not allergic. Norwrgian vipers have more potent venom than norwegian wasps, and again, people react different to bites, some are more sensitive towards norwegian viper venom. Some few deaths have been recorded by vipers in norway but under normal circumstances, neither people nor pets die or suffer any permanent harm from their bite. Often their bites are treated only for a more speedy recovery or "to be on the safe side". My brother wasBitten by norwegian viper, he was treated with prescription for painkillers and a cure of antibiotics when he was bitten. After a week his hand was swollen, after two it was gone and hand was all normal, but most bites I have heard of from that species have given smaller consequences, and some far worse.
Sensitivity of toxins on different individuals is not an exact science it would seem.
This reminds of the snakehead paranoia from a few years back, read a book on that one while I was in jail 5 yrs back. This year following headlines in medias, youtube and reptile forums to some degree, I find striking similatiries, seing the same string of events hapening.
This case is a little different though. In stead of blowing up all over the Hollywood medias, it only blew up in here reptile snake society.
If this news event had not been moderated in time, it is easy to imagine how it could have blown up into a storm of propaganda and rage against venomous snakes, and responsible venomus animal husbandry.
The comments of the officials in this case, have done a ton of damage which the responsible herpetocultural community has spent a ton of time to fix.
Or is it the meadias fault, for abandoning morals and publishing twisted stories to make more summer money?
There are many to blame in this case. I perhaps I have added to undue debate aswell?
I need to learn to filter my thoughts better.. don´t we all?
Kind regards
Vålen

Vålen, you make some good points.
One thing that you can to here, is to fill in more of your Profile to let us know a bit more about just who we are talking with, and what part of the world you are in, and what your experience concerning reptiles is.
As far as the news sources, they will Always distort facts and what experts say, and try to create a more exciting news story. Always !
Several folks who live in that area are looking every night to try to find a escaped exotic snake. Perhaps something will turn up, perhaps not.
As far as rumors that get spread, well, the story about the fellow being released after one hour seems to be not true, if you want to believe the National news wires that are saying he was released from the hospital on Sunday, which would suggest that he stayed there from Thursday to Sunday.
However, those same news services also quote him saying that following the bite on Thursday, he felt numbness, tingling and drooping eyelids, among other symptoms of the neurotoxic venom, then officials administered the antivenin, which reversed the effects. This would imply that he was well Thursday night, and would support the idea that he might have been released early.
So, this leads me to ask this. If the symptoms were reversed on Thursday, shortly after the bite, and shortly after he was given antivenin, then why was he kept in the hospital until Sunday ? That does not add up very well.
Also, his statement says he is spending the "weekend" with his sister, which would suggest Saturday and Sunday, which would suggest that he was released earlier than Sunday.
Lots of things in this story just do not add up.
Hopefully, the dude will make a statement soon that might clear up some of the confusion.
Best Regards
John Z

Another thing that drives me nuts is that the various newspapers can't seem to get their stories straight.
Miami Herald now reporting his symptoms were numbness in his arm, shoulder and one side of his face.
No mention of drooping eyelids, shortness of breath, paralysis, etc.

So the snake that bit him was in a tree, yet, the most recent article says he was bitten "while installing and UNDERGROUND cable"...
99% sure this story is bogus..but that leaves a 1% chance that this snakes is found tonight as well.

"So the snake that bit him was in a tree, yet, the most recent article says he was bitten "while installing and UNDERGROUND cable"... "
What they mean, was that installing "underground cable" was the reason he was there, not that he was working underground at the time. In South Florida, "underground cable" generally means it's buried in a narrow trench, probably less than 2 feet deep, not in a walk-through tunnel like you might do up north (that would be below groundwater level here).
