Breaking the law is breaking the law. I'm not up on Florida laws, but if he broke 1 or 2, how is enforcing them "extreme". Every law carries a maximum penalty if broken. Just like here in GA., if you catch a black rat snake you can be fined and/ or jailed.I've never known that law to be enforced personally, but if it was to someone I know or myself tomorrow, would it be extreme? No,it's the law. Some of them suck, but that's why we can and should vote.If you don't like em, change em. Take care, Marty

Georgia, the same state the allows you catch and keep venomous but wont let you catch and keep non venomous? (Unless the laws change and I wasn't aware)
If I buy a California kingsnake and don't want it but don't want to release it in the wild (Florida) but also don't want to loose money and or just need a few bucks and I'm caught selling it, my time is 4 months in jail if I can't pay the fine? EXTREME!
Granted we, I don't know the whole story, just what David has said. If it's as clear as he pointed out, sold a snake went to jail then yes, that's EXTREME! Should he be punished, IMO, just 1 snake or a couple, no. If he has been busted before, sure.
The state/city is spending more money to keep this guy in jail over what? Taxes pay for his meals, medical and all while he is there... Sure it's not heaven for him but damn!
I'm not sure of the whole story but if it's as simple as David states... I'm not saying it's ok to break the law but I am saying his punishment is a bit extreme.
Shall we lock up Medial Marijuana users too? How about California stop? Jay Walkers? Slap the guy with a $100.00 fine and a warning. If he does it agian...

So if one day a law is passed that says freedom of speech is gone your all going to say "the law is the law." If another day a law is passed that guns are no longer allowed in civilian hands you are all going to sit back and let the police come and take your firearms and say "the police are just doing their jobs?" I come from Iran and have seen what is going on over there. A lot worse than what you guys think because of how much restriction there is on the media and internet out there. These people had the same exact mindset as many of you have posted on this thread.

The trick is, not to sit back and let them pass. But when one does pass, just because you don't like it doesn't mean you break it.

And the freedom of speech, and gun rights argument is lame. NOBODY could quietly outlaw those without anyone knowing. There are processes that have to be followed to remove a constitutional amendment.

Or you call it the Patriot Act and make it seem patriotic that you give up your rights!
It doesn't matter, our country tells us it can't afford to pay us Social Security soon but then goes out and buys a Medical plan for all! Soon enough companies will realize they can save a buck buy not providing health care for its employees because now they can let you rely on Government and not them! That 1 Trillion will soon be Trillions.
Point is we may collapse in bankruptcy and laws will be broken by all. But till then we still need order.

Completely off topic but Marty I'm really loving your profile picture for some reason. That is one beautiful Eastern diamondback!
Back on topic, my point was not that we can do much about it once the law is passed. Many of you however, believe that if we just sit back and look like good little citizens, or subjects in some of your cases, than the legislators will just leave us alone. That is not the case, nor is it possible to "correct" the idiots in the venomous snake community.
My point was don't be so quick to jump on a fellow venomous snake keeper and side with law enforcement because "they are just doing their job." Yeah and the police force in Iran are "just doing their job" when they start sending bullets your way.
If somebody is being a complete idiot by putting other's lives in danger, or releasing their animals, then go ahead and hang that person for all I care.

Thanks Jahon, I reckon we're all basically saying the same thing, Nobody wants to loose rights, or have stupid laws thrown at us. And at the same time there's always a few out there that make everyone in this hobby look bad, and fuel the lawmakers, and the press is on their side for the most part. About all we can do is pay attention to what our representatives are up to and support organizations like USARK and keep our voices heard. Take care, Marty
