Wow, who is this idiot? He needs to be banned! Educated and mature folks do not make ridiculous post like this only simple minded people! Those are awesome mangroves and certainly worth whatever someone is willing to pay!

Well handled and your explanation is excellent, Doug.
I intend to leave this thread up.
As BGF so handily points out, it is a great counterpoint of a real expert and a self-realized one.
Thank you for your professional handling of this unpleasantness, "dude".

Thank you all. My apologies for becoming just a touch aggravated. The reason for my annoyance wasn’t actually that I was personally insulted; it was more that the animals themselves were being insulted. Allow me to clarify-
I breed snakes for a few reasons, none of these are monetary. I breed for conservation reasons regarding some species within a carefully managed gene pool in collaboration with other institutions around the world. I feel it is my duty and the least I can do for being blessed with such a rewarding career. Secondly, I breed only a couple of species. Mangroves have always been near and dear to me. Like most, I lost my share of these during my life. Along with this, I feel it is a tragedy to see so many of these snakes die a slow death after importation. So, I decided to try my hand at first; keeping them alive and healthy, and next; captive propagation. By putting captive young into the market, my hope is to eventually alleviate a large majority of the need to import wild caught mangroves. Hopefully one day the trade will have enough founder stock, and I will look at another species.
Third (but certainly not last), I breed a few snakes because I am still fascinated by these animals. To watch a snake being born, or slowly emerge from an egg is an awesome experience. Knowing that this has gone on for eons, and yet another of this long line of resilient reptiles has taken its first breath here on the planet. To me, it is humbling, as this is as much the snake’s world as it is mine- perhaps even moreso.
To see, or watch someone belittle these animals by calling a species “crappy” or to refer to an animal strictly in a monetary sense goes against everything a person should feel about these animals. I have seen so many people start out great- then end up as “used car salesmen” of the snake world. However, now we see more and more young people actually starting off with that mindset. It is frustrating and saddening at the same time. In five years, most of these folks will have moved on to the next “novelty fad” of their adolescence . Tragically, a lot of damage can be done in five years.
If you can marvel at the Komodo dragon at the zoo, but walk right by the anole on the side of the building twenty seconds later and not be at least somewhat equally as enthralled, then you just may have lost what being a herp person really is. Or, perhaps you never truly had it.
Thanks
DH

I agree with Karl, well done Doug. Just keep trying and someday you'll be in the SnaykeMaster's league! LOL! Take care, Marty
P.S. I wish I could keep those in GA. I'd love to have 1 or 2.

Doug, you handled it better than I would have and no need to apologize. Snakymaster or whoever the hell h/she is , is a complete moron. I've seen your snakes, know how you keep them and the old adage "you get what you pay for" holds true with herps - sure, you can get a parasite-ridden Boiga for $50 but you'll get crap, pay a lot more in the long run treating for parasites and most likely have a snake that won't do well in the long run. I'd pay $275 for one of Doug's mangroves - that's a great deal for superb animals.

Having seen Doug's set-up and animals I can honestly say I was not only impressed but jealous! And I've been a "SnakeMaster" for 45 years!
What a moron to make this post. Doug qualifications and experience surely outweighs the OP a hundred times over.
I will happily add "SnakeMaster" to my list of people NOT to buy from or deal with.
