I agree. You can always leave. While that last post wasn't written the best, that in no way reflects on this site. I have been working with hots only for the last 3 years or so, but I have gotten some of the best knowledge, and advice, from this site. No one cares about what ever european sites you frequent.
About the hots and children question, thats a tough one. I have a 6 year old, and I have some non vens at the house. I want to keep some hots, but i don't have the means now to make sure its done safely. There are ways you can mix the two, but it needs to be done safely and correctly. Even if they are in locking vision cages, but just an extra bedroom, isn't going to work. One gets out and nails you, or one of your family members in the middle of the night, not a good situation- for your family, and the venomous community as a whole. Lke i said, it can be done, but you need to make sure its done right, not half assed.

What it was suppoesed to sy is if i get rid of my snakes, then thats it , im done. Also i dont have any major elapids, viperids. As far as im willing to go right now is either acanthopis, maybe Dendroaspis(maybe).People say snakes are to unpredictable.Well so are humans, they can love you one minute, then cut your throat for a dollar the next.ALL SNAKES ARE JUST TRYING TO SURVIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just a quick question. You state you do not have any major elapids, but state that you may keep Acanthopis or Dendroaspis. Death adders and Mambas are pretty major in my book. What qualifies a major Elapid for you? Not trying to tick anyone off. Just curious.

LOL-I was wondering the same thing. After reading what everyone said, I guess it boils down to there really isn't a right or wrong answer. It depends on you, your family, your home, your knowledge, and what risks you are willing to take.

Haha! Yeah, i was wondering that too! Dendroaspis! Thats a pretty major elapid!! I understand you "live and learn" in regards to bites, but, if you are getting nailed in the beginning of learning, you should prob. find a mentor to help you learn the correct way to do things. Get more experience before getting any mambas, please! You are just going to get the Darwin Award, and make matters worse for us all.

"Live and learn" in the context of a Dendroaspis or a death adder bite? More like "learn IF you live"...
I can't think of many more 'major' elapids to come up against... Unless Ophiophagus sprouted some wings and started flying around...

I didn't recognize the death added but I thought he had just gotten his Latin wrong with the mamba. I have cobras and still think ill wait on the mambas. From what I hear... shhh.... they are not for the inexperienced. Not that he doesn't have experience (I don't know him to judge) but wow. I pride myself on not getting tagged. If I did get tagged I wouldn't use it as a reference to how well I keep hots.

It's still a great forum. Peaks and valleys like any of them out there. People get busy and have no time to post, but there is still a good foundation of knowledgeable folks slithering through here.

Yes there is worse out there to me like oxyuranus microlepidotus, pseudonaja affinis. Now i know mambas are fast and death adders are to, but the death adders dont forage for food. All mambas whether you like it or not have different temperments.Getting bit helps you in your journey,im not encouraging it,but its gonna happen, i dont care who you are.YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WHERE DEALING WITH,YOU KNOW WHAT IT COULD DO.Also if your not willing to die being in this hobby, then your in the wrong hobby then. How can you expect to say something like that, and not get bit.You walk with your head held high, but wait till you get bit, you will walk with your tail between your legs.Im not stupid when it comes to this animals, i understand full well what can, and will happen.once again i ask you how can you own venomous snakes and not expect to get bit.As far as concern for my self, thats the least thing on my mind. But put another human being in the situation, and the other side of the equation cancels out.WHO NEEDS LUCK,WHEN YOU HAVE GOD?!!!!
