Good grief tHE TRUTH IS OUT THERE BUT YOU HAVE TO OPEN YOUR EYES AND look! to see~!
here is my opinion
SI works thats it ! nothing more needs to be said jim harrison should sew up his lips or just fade away like he has been doing.
jim is a fool if he does not do si to prevent such bad bite episodes they realy make him look like a fool. WHEN IS YOUR NEXT DOCTOR VISIT?
I have survived again and again AND AGAIN and have all my fingers no side effects at all.
many breakthroughs but none to be mentioned here.
jim needs to sell venom and anything that might stop that is his enemy plain and simple his opinions are dollar driven aND old and so is his brain.
so many times i see a kid laying on a gurny with iv in arm and i think SI could have helped!
I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU JIM GOOD LUCK NEXT BITE YOU ON YOUR OWN JUST YOU AND A VIAL OF AV AND A DOC THAT HAS BETTER THINGS TO DO. HAHAHA!
nOT GOOD ODDS IN MY BOOK.
WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ?
NONE ITS LIKE A SIMPLE INSULIN SHOT ONCE EVERY WEEK.
EVEN LESS WORK.
i WONT BE BACK TO READ JIMS GREAT REPLY
SO HAVE FUN GUYS
KEEP UP THE si FIGHT!
IT WORKS 20 YEARS NO SIDE EFFECTS NO HOSPITALS JUST FOOLS.
just one mans opinion

I understand human nature to protect ones livelihood. (Not stating this is why said individual is against it or that SI really works, just a very true comment)
However, in the case of a weekly shot to a kid or anyone else... I think if SI really works, only people who are around VR would really ever consider doing it. (This also may include SOME Hunters)
To be honest, if SI was proven safe and marketed so that taking a weekly shot was easy as you state I might consider it so back to your point, I understand why people who make or work in the field of anti venom may feel threatened. However, wouldn't the venom still be needed to make these shots? I would guess it would just open another door to make more money for some folks selling another type of product right up their ally.
I could be viewing this totally wrong but it appears to me right now if SI really works someone could really make some money packaging and marketing it...

Well, there you have it! S.I. works 'cuz Bud said so!
Honestly, the only thing that last post was missing, aside from intelligible speech, scientific data, and a little sanity, was some maniacal laughter.

Wow Bud. What an eloquent and obviously well-educated post!
So, you survive bite after bite after bite? All the bites and you only handle snakes as a hobby? You call others names?
I myself am very impressed by you so far! Where does the line form to kiss your ass?
You, my friend, are proof of nothing at all, except for what is wrong with the hobby.

Let me point out what I said, "I might consider it". It would have to be safe and as easy as you state. milking my own snakes to make an SI shot is not what I want to do! If I could buy some already made up SI shots and stick them in the fridge, sure... But again, it must be safe and proven to work and that takes time even if some studies prove to be promising.
On the other hand I'm really safe around my snakes and I'm not sure the cost is really justifiable for me but maybe to zoo keepers... But yes, if I owned (Hope to one day) an Inland Taipan and weekly shots was all it took to be safe (Just incase), yeah I would strongly consider it.

Absolutely nobody in the venom world is "threatened" by SI. It seems as though the SI people are the only ones coming out and attacking with negative comments, name-calling and empty words. If they want to do it, so be it. Nobody ever said they couldn't. Talk about defensive.
Personally, I've really nothing else to comment on the matter. Until I see the scientific results, or until one of these folks can speak intelligently on the matter instead of rambling-on in some incoherent stupor, I'll get my facts from reliable sources.
This thread has gone beyond it's lifespan and become nothing but annoying.

Buzztail says it best. All I want is facts and when someone does not have facts they name call. Archie I respect your interest in this subject and if you get out this way come visit and I can show you what we are doing here.
If anyone is interested in the real research being done with venom check out Toxicon and other peer reviewed journals.
